Title: Tobii EyeX initial assessment
Post by: Chalenge on January 25, 2016, 10:38:42 PM
My initial assessment is that this is not a good fit for AH. The primary reason is the constant repositioning of the viewpoint as you move your eyes laterally. For the older players, particularly those with bifocal lenses, the raising of the head angle causes confusion in the eye-tracking software and it will "gimbal lock" if you like. For others, using the larger screens like 40" and above, the corner views are more difficult to calibrate for and you get a similar "gimbal lock" situation.

I do plan on doing a full review on this product after I give it more time. The parent company is still working on improvements and taking suggestions from customers, so there may be changes coming that make it viable. For the moment though I would not rush out to pick one up unless you just like playing with something you will eventually shelve.

TrackIR is still the best option for AH unless you just prefer hat views.

Is this the bar that tracks your eyes?

It's one of them. There is the Eye Tribe, Steel Series, the Tobii (they have at least two now), and there are laptops that have them integrated into the monitor panel. They all work exactly the same way.

Thanks for the report. I heard they didn't have a auto center function. Kinda disappointing.
