I hope to see everyone who's been attending AND some new faces. We've been havin'
a LOT of fun with this. Join us and enjoy some good-natured furballin'.
Time: 8-10 PM Eastern U.S.
Place: Axis And Allies Arena
Note the change of venue. We'll be using the Axis and Allies Arena for this one
if they remembered to set it up for us. If not, we'll just do it in Mid-War.

Looking forward to it! :aok
-
I'll be there :aok
-
arena is being setup as we speak, someone pop in and check it out.
please let us know if we missed any planes.
-
was fun last night, as usual I had a great time. hope to see you guys next week.
-
I had a good time... learned a few things regarding planes I don't normally fly.
Vudak whooped my P47 in his 190. :devil I deserved every Karmic bullet.
Was a nice change of pace with 10k alt cap and medium alt bases to launch from compared to stratosphere surprise attackers in the Main Arena.
Would have liked to stick it out with true axis vs allies, but i understand keeping those in the arena happy by opening it up. :aok :aok :aok

The sides balanced once the perception of garbage rides and uber rides was removed. I think everyone who want's to slug it out in the garbage rides against the obvious knows the other side will just keep growing in numbers over the increased possibilities of easy kills due to numbers and good rides.
When Waystin was an AvA CM I would come in on Thursday nights along with POTW to help him provide the numbers on the garbage ride side he promised would be there. Optimal point, in the AvA it is obvious the matchups have a fun side and a get your arse ruined side. We always got swamped by sissy weenies and a few squads or group of friends who wanted to abuse POTW, and it was not a fun experience. And the same for the kill crabby event I used to fly as one of the crabbys to be HO'd and hoarded by up to 12 vs 1 in the DA canyons my Ki43 versus uber rides.
You can always ask 3 guys to go with you to the DA to abuse you 3 vs 1 if you really like this kind of abuse. Other wise it is simple abuse because the abusers are sissys by choice choosing the good ride side and the historic venue perpetuates it. This has been the case with the CT\AvA since 14 years ago.

Well we had the entire Axis plane set for EW/MW so I'm not sure I'd call them all "garbage rides..." They did help conquer much of the planet.
With that said, I'm up for whatever next week. It was fun!
Oh and KB, it was fun. Good flying! <S>!

Not so. AvA staff always tries, and has always tried, to balance the plane set. The only problem has been the Spitfire Effect. Eventually a core group of people learned to master the German rides (and, more easily, the Japanese rides) and that problem was solved.
Hey, some planes are always more difficult to fly than others. Last night, for example, I saw people flying P-40s very effectively, and I noticed some 38Gs and even a 202. I think being able to do that is something to strive for and enjoy, not to complain about.

Soon as Jager unlocked the same rides on the axis side, the numbers balanced and the fights normalized.
The previous Monday nights in the MWMA balanced themselves due to the balance in ride availability. So a few sissys pushed the altitude restriction and the HO restriction. And sometimes the numbers were imbalanced. The only real upside surprisingly last night was the lack of HOing. Not knowing if HOing ment face on, face on, or included the front 60 degree cone, I gave up a lot of shots that would have removed irritating numbers saving my kester and my countrymen.
So without front quartering shots and flying a garbage ride, numbers and good rides become, here please use this baseball bat to knee cap me one more time sir.....The perception of easy kills no matter the questionable method is intoxicating in games. In the MA at least I can shoot back and knee cap the little sissies and not break some gentleman's agreement like say, self balancing sides by choosing to go to the garbage ride side for the greater good of the local community.
When I cam into the arena it was obvious which side needed another player and I helped balance the side. I just looked in the hangers.

So take front quartering shots. Just try to avoid placing yourself in front of their guns and pulling the trigger. Use your best judgment if they've obviously maneuvered away from a HO situation and try to do the same... Basically just try to get in a position where you can shoot them, they can't shoot you, and that isn't due to their voluntary action. Then pull the trigger and don't worry about it.

one request was for axis planes on one side, and allied planes on the other. I worked to get that done so that I could keep everyone happy. later on, when I realized it was just too lopsided, I gave both sides the same planes. I was hoping to keep everyone happy, but alas we know how that goes. anyway it was a fun night. next time ill just put all rides on both sides and that should take care of it.
hopefully we'll see you all in the AVA next week with both sides getting all the rides they want.

I vote on a new terrain. That one was just way too "busy" and it was really hard to see
enemy fighters on the deck. Basically at low alt, it was like trying to find a green ball
amidst a floor of green and black polka dots. I heard several complaints about this, so
let's go to a "plain" terrain such as we're used to in the mid-war and early war arenas.
One of my guys who's usually VERY good natured and doesn't get frustrated logged off
after about 40 minutes due to having been "face shot" three times.
I did notice a big difference this week with regards to guys just hangin' high
and picking as well. They wouldn't get into the low fights except to race in, take a shot and
shoot back up to 10K.
My overall "review" of this Monday was that it wasn't nearly as much fun as the past
4 or 5 weeks have been.
Let's get back to the furballin' and leave the 'tard crap in the LWA.

Well it was nice to try the AvA set up for a short while to keep things fresh, but I have to agree it didn't seem to work for either side. I think a lot of your observations stemmed from it, Oddcaf.
From being on the Axis side, my observation was that there were 60-70% Brewsters up and flying on the Allied one on any given sortie. That's not really a bad thing - I'm not going to tell people what to fly. But it isn't surprising that you saw more picking and "face shots." Many people aren't willing to have 2 minute sorties by trying to tangle with a Brewster on its terms for one, hence the BnZ/picking. Secondly, for those of us who are, when you commit to an all-out turn fight against a significantly better sustained turner, your best hope in many cases is to acquire a front quarter shot they can't return early. It's just not realistic or reasonable to expect, for example, a 190 or many of the 109s to saddle up on a Brewster for very long, especially if the fight starts in a classic head on merge. To expect someone in a much worse turner to (1) turn with a better turner; and (2) pass up what will likely be their only shot just isn't fair or reasonable.
Anyway, if you're in the better turner plane and you get hit with a front quarter shot in a knife fight, if you're going to get aggravated it needs to be with yourself, because you hold all the cards. I don't really let face shots bother me (and there were plenty of guys on the other side taking them too) because they're avoidable and help me force an overshoot, but that took time to learn and they did bother me years ago until I learned. I'm not a fan of these artificial handicaps as I don't think they engender learning, but that's just me.
Finally, just to keep things in perspective, as frustrating as it is to be picked by a faster plane that won't commit to a fight, it's also pretty frustrating to accept a fight on the better turner's terms only to have 2-3 more slow planes show up and pick you. I had to say something when one guy got frustrated that I bailed on our 1v1 and extended in my 190, but there were 2 more Brewsters bee-lining for me. Realistically, what does he expect?
Regardless, it was for the most part fun, and it did get more fun as the evening went on. I think we should keep holding it in the AvA and I think we'd all do well to remember that there is no opportunity to win/lose perks in there, or obtain a score, or complete an achievement, and so there's absolutely no reason not to challenge yourself and just have fun with it.
:aok :salute

This is the first one I missed.

well, for the next one, we can use a different terrain, maybe a desert setup for visability and we'll just put the whole planeset on both sides. that should fix everything but the ho'ing

Hi Jaeger,
Sounds great. Danke. :)
