Title: Super bowl 2016 thread
Post by: EskimoJoe on February 07, 2016, 07:53:01 PM
Well, I'm a little drunk and didn't see a thread open. It's halftime (I think the halftime shown sucked). What do you all think so far? It's been a good btttle. Curious to see how this second half turns out.

Truth be told, I have not watch SB si CS 1988. Careless then and really careless now. Most overrated sporting event.

Panthers look so weak. Not the same team. They have to be doing this for Payton.
Anyway

I thought it was a good game. Both offenses got beat on pretty hard by awesome defenses on both sides.
And Gaga did a great national anthem. Slightly non-standard but very respectful rendition, and she's got great pipes.
My kids wanted to know why beyonce' forgot her dress. Looked like a no-class tramp. Made her look old too, kind of sad she tried to pull off the 60 yr old Cher look during a superbowl halftime in front of the whole nation. Imagine that, Gaga shows more class than the "other" female performer on stage tonight. Go figure.

As a Michigan Wolverine living near Seattle, I had hoped it was Seattle vs. Patriots. :aok
Since there is one Wolverine in the Panthers lineup (Funchess) and one for the Broncos (Shofield), I was OK with either team winning.
Bronco's defense has been just awesome at least the last two games.
While it was a defensive struggle, and folks tend not to like defensive struggles as much as high-scoring games, it at least was not a giant blowout like some Super Bowls.

Stop start stop start Advertisment for Hemmoroid cream and then stop start stop start
They bring on a bloke who just kicks the ball?
It's proper poo!

The Chinese and Greeks started all this stuff -- a bunch of people scrambling over a ball -- and the British carried it forth. And the British are responsible for golf.
Zack cannot complain. It is his own doing, ancestrally speaking.

Soccer teams send out 10 blokes who just kick the ball so it's 10 x poo. That makes golf one of the greatest sports because no one kicks the ball, other than Elihu Smales, and he's a dick. :old:

I have been fortunate enough to have been able to see every super bowl game. I love defensive struggles, where defenses battle toe to toe for supremacy.
The rules of the game have changed so as to favor the offenses of the game, and still, a great defense actually won the game. I have witnessed 3 of the top
defenses play in the super bowl. The first being The Steel Curtain defenses of the Steelers in the 70s'. Many from that defense are now in the HOF. The second
that impressed me were the 85 Bears. Again many of them in the HOF. And now third, which in mho may be the best of the bunch the Broncos Defense against
a very fine offense from Carolina and a great young Quarterback directing them. Stats show, if memory serves, number 1 defenses have won 12 out of the 14 super
bowls that a #1 defense has competed in. Last year Seattle's defense was #1 and lost. One of only two times that a #1 Defense has lost a super bowl.
Something to store in the memory bank.

Saw most of the game and was happy it was a tight scoring game up to the last quarter. I hate it when it's a blow out. Almost all of the commercials sucked. Really a big let down IMO as this is about the only time I bother to watch them. The half time show was pretty ho hum. Not a beyonce fan at all. Frankly would have rather skipped it. Played on my tablet while it was on.
Sure was impressed with the way the talking heads are so concerned that Manning is going to retire, when Manning hasn't said a word about it AFAIK.

how is golf athletic? even in baseball, they run once in a while.

Have you ever done it? Give it a shot, at least 9 holes, and report back. Last round of golf I played was a good workout and it was a really casual affair. Someone serious about it would likely get a better workout and benefit from strength training as well.

It's not. Golf is just walking through a park with a purpose.
Golf is a lot of physical exercise. What other sport is there when you miss, you yell obscenities while using your club to either dig large holes in the ground or try to chop a tree down

Good point. You know it's the sport of kings when you get attractive serving wenches who deliver libations.
That gives me an idea. A liquor license, a fleet of flat bottom boats, and college girls on summer vacation. Most people can't go fishing or ride in a boat without some brewskis.

It would depend on your definition of "sport".
I lump pool, skeet shooting, golf, bowling, fishing, archery and some others into the same category. They all require some skills, but none of them are excessively demanding on the physique.
I call them all sports as they all measure your performance against others.

Dear Cam,
How much do you get paid NOT to fall on a fumbled football during the Superbowl?
Of all the things one might point to during the game, that sir was the deciding moment, and you were found lacking. Other things certainly made your task hard, a few questionable calls, the lack of spark from your team mates, your off day throwing the ball................but that "stand and stare at the ball bouncing nearest you on the ground", that was the final nail in the coffin.
That interview at the end............let me help you out with that, try saying this next time: "I'm unprepared to answer your questions from a losing standpoint. In all the scenarios I ran through my head prior to the game, I never thought for a moment that I would lose and have to face this interview. I am sorry but I am intellectually and emotionally unprepared to take part. Thank you".

I'm 56 now and 18 holes wipes me out even with a cart. Of course, sunny Florida has a lot to do with the body stress. Walking a course like the pros do would be impossible for me. The days just aren't long enough. I love the sport. I also love the guys that say it isn't that try and can't break 100 strokes on the front nine.

I think professional fishing is pretty tough. Stay up until midnight sorting your tackle, get up at 3 a.m. and launch a boat, sit around freezing until it's your turn to be jolted by waves for an hour at 70mph, stand in the blazing sun or torrential rain or snowstorm for 5 or 6 hours making the same movements over and over again, thousands of times, while trying to maintain total focus and concentration, then rocket back across the waves at 70mph, go weigh in and conduct interviews and interact with every fan you can until nightfall and then go fix up your tackle again until midnight. Then repeat the process three more days...
I couldn't do it.

Try swinging a golf club the same MPH as like Bubba or Rory throughout 18 holes....what is going to happen is your going to continually hit the ball worse and worse...this is because your stabilizer muscles are getting tired and your losing positive control of your club compared to the ball.
Golf takes more hand eye coordination then most "sports"

certain individuals were dodging fights. Ones they didn't want to lose I suppose. If it was sponsored or run by the CM team then I'm sure it would be more successful with the appropriate level of respect and fairplay between opponents. BaldEagl's bracket was always plagued by the same sort of drama.
Would love to see more competitive events in AH where the :ahand, and :salute can be kept above the  :bhead :furious.
It is amazing that as a community we let the one or two bad apples spoil the rest of the fun that can be had with these types of events. Zero tolerance is the only way to go.
