Title: Frame Rate test.
Post by: hitech on February 10, 2016, 08:36:48 AM
Yesterday I found an optimization that looks like it will help low end cards a lot so I need some test samples.
With every thing disabled waffles machine went from 45 in the current patch to about 70 fps with the new optimization.

Turn VSync off in Video Settings.

Go to A1 of craterma

In Options/Grapic detail press default, so all ranges are set to default.

Disable ALL options ,

Set Environment map to None.

Press Ok.

Minimize the clip board and observe frame rate. And post your FPS in this thread.
I need this done before next patch because this gives me a base line for when we do the same test after the patch.

Thanks
Dale

I'm playing at 3840x2160 on two GTX 980s in SLI.

FPS goes from 84 to 86. Vsync off and the settings as you suggested.

I changed the procedure slightly, Make sure you have VSync off for the test.

If well below 60 will not make a difference.

No need challenge, is mostly for the slower cards test, I just need a relative numbers.

2560x1600, Vsync Off, Tower time 6:35 (Dark) Radeon HD 6970

Tower 100
Runways 72 to 78

Had to do it twice, forgot to put Environment map to None. (Tower 62, Runways 43 to 59 with EM on 1)

58-60 with everything default and night time sky HD 7770 Card in tower

1920x1080

Vsync off from splash screen video settings.

Tower A1, clipboard minimized.

Before disable - 43
After - 61

Worst place FPS hurts low end cards is using the mouse in the hanger. During the alpha I was testing with a 9800 along with a 6770 on two PC where this was like a night and day difference in being able to move the mouse.

Hanger at A1.
Before - 43
After - 45

Might I suggest an arena message in the MA to get a better test size.   I have heard several vox discussions about beta frame rates being low as compared to AH2.  Most of these folks don't read the forum very often.

Edit: Forgot to minimise the clipboard, with that done I get 308 FPS.

106 fps

1920x1080, E8400 at 3GHz, 8GB RAM, HD7870 2GB GPU, Windows XP 32 bit (which only sees 4GB of the RAM, the rest is for dual boot to Linux), graphics card driver AA set for adaptive MSAA.

(My normal, with almost everything cranked up except EM=none and Post Lighting disabled, is 40 fps.  This is online, as offline the tank drones I have set up are visible from the tower and reduce fps.  As with bustr the worst frame rates I get are in the hanger, i.e. below 20.)

Test:

Results:  84 FPS

Settings:  Vsync Off, Default w/all options Off, Environmental Slider = none, Clipboard away

Location:  Tower A1, CraterMA

Edited:  There was 3 fps gain from putting Clipboard away.  Note*  FOV was 90 (~77 fps); default FOV 80 (~84 FPS!)
All in all, 10 fps gained from putting clipboard away and using default field of view.

I suspect anyone reporting 60 fps did not "disable vsync".  This is done at the video settings tab on the begin game splash screen before you select online.

Also, changing your FOV (field of view) back to auto, which I also suspect has been changed to a manual number should also give a good "default" baseline.

Oh, and don't forget to put the clipboard down.  It took me 3 times to do it properly  :uhoh

There is no need to change your FOV, this is not a system to system test, but will be a before and after test.

Before test I had Environment mapping at 1 and all the boxes checked besides, "Disable bump mapping" and "Disable detail".
I had 38fps.

After I turned them all off I had 76 fps.

Then after closing the clipboard I had 84fps

Running the game in 1280X720 res

No
Just post FPS, so on next patch you can run the same test.
