Title: FOV
Post by: hgtonyvi on February 25, 2016, 09:19:34 PM
Can we get the same FOV that's in AH2 put in AH3 and whoever wants to change it manually can do so? I notice in the beta FOV has been changed.

it is easy to change it, start the game, click on the video settings and change it to custom and set it at 100-105 like it is in AH2.

My guess is they changed it for a reason, like it may be easier for a new player to find and use the gauges with the field of view the way they have it now. Maybe it's a more "main stream" setup comparable to other games, so more familiar to new players.

The default FOV is now set to 80 instead of 106 to increase frame rates and make the target aircraft bigger.

When AH is updated to AH3 I expect your current video settings for AH2 will be applied to AH3 so you'll only have to manually revert FOV for the beta testing.

Got it. So I will have to put fov to 106 as a custom setting. Btw I get the idea now. It's like a automatic zoom instead of doing the zoom manually using the bracket keys.

HT said he changed the default to match what the other games use, so new players would feel more comfortable.

I found the new FOV so nice that I changed that in AH2, too. Or at least to something in between the defaults, can't remember the exact value I now have.

As said, it makes targets bigger so I find myself using zoom much less than before.

That's correct. Zoom is just a change in FOV. So you could set 106 and still zoom in to 80 or less but if you set 80 you can't zoom out to 106.

See the instruments??? Can't think of a plane that I can't see the 6 pack without moving views. Hope that was not part of the reason to change the FOV.

Making it similar to other games makes more sense....even though I hate the default FOV setting in Beta...makes me feel the pilot is looking inbetween look front and look front down.

The reason why I like the FOV in AH2 is because I usually read the gauges frequently. In ah3 with 80 fov will block gauges and not be able to zoom out. So I'll rather use the 106 fov.

In AH2 I used a minimum(smaller number) FOV that would still give me view coverage when looking around..  This worked well for the smaller monitor I had then.  I think it was 92.  This gave me the best zoom for normal situations.  Larger monitors/TVs can use larger FOV values.  I now use 106 in both beta and ah2.

I would suggest HTC consider a different approch to the auto setting that would lean heavy on monitor/TV size and view coverage.  Make note, I have no idea what values they use now to auto set the FOV in either the beta or AH2.  The beta does seem to be fixed.

That's no longer correct. AH3 defaults to a tilt down view of the gauges and switches to a centered view with zoom. It didn't at first but it's fixed now. It will do it with any FOV you set unless you reset the default front view to centered.

Is the default unzoomed head position angled down or simply lower. I'd like to have it centered like in AH2, even if I have to set it myself. That said, maybe have an ingame option like the stall limiter?

Its my understanding that you hit the "home" key to center it up like in AH2

What many of you are missing............. the head tilt can now be saved along with the forward head position  :rock  I think it was FLS along with HiTech that took the time to consider the view concerns and come up with default views that playable "out of the box".  It takes very little to tweak it "anyway" you like now including head tilts that were not possible before, and probably would have gone unnoticed without the default FOV.

Still, for beginners, it will probably be one of those things that will come as a recommendation, like setting the look back view to peek around the headrest.

Now, as for a wishlist item, I would like an animated look option (call it peek), that would "pan" as well as tilt head to give a 1 second look backwards.  This would be very dramatic when filming from cockpit views.

Wow some of you like the new FOV? I've had mine set to 120 for as long as I can remember... much easier to line up shots and keep track of multiple enemies when I can actually see what's going on around me.

Not that I like the FOV for combat, like you I think it handcuffs your SA.  I like the concept, and the added dimension of tilt that is customizable along with my FOV.  The honest answer, I probably wouldn't risk perks (only reason to fear cartoon pilot fail), with any FOV less than 100.
