Title: Is this an OK card?
Post by: SPKmes on March 15, 2016, 09:09:33 PM
ASUS STRIX R7370 DC2OC-2GD5-GAMING AMD R7 370 2GB

Just wanting to know if this card is any good....I do know that R9 ( bigger number) is better however will this suffice for a year or two? I currently have a radeon 7700 series 1Gb which can run full 60 Frames as long as it is not too busy on AH2 (50-70 plane furball...couple of maps has stutters when close to ground)...open beta/ Alpha only gave me 30 max frames though...The 7700series is dieing so looking to replace and also be able to run the new version when it is released.

It is about the same class an the current NVidia 960 series, just a tad slower.  Should be able to run the Beta well, but you may have to tweak the graphic settings to keep it at high frame rate when things get busy in the game.

are you talking about this 960?  Asus STRIX GTX960 DirectCU II OC 4GB GDDR5
or    Gigabyte GeForce GTX960 4GB DDR5 OC HDMI DP 2xDVI

which system do you have right now?
I think..(sorry keep looking but forget to write it down) it is a ATI Radeon 7760 1GB...or are you talking about PC specs?

When I refer to any video card, I am referring to the base reference card as supplied by the manufacturer (NVidia, AMD....).

so along what lines would I be looking at card wise to run the new installment at full phang ....i won't be able to afford it but am interested in checking the options....obviously with my last question you can see i am a little slow on the uptake....

At the moment it seems the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 should be enough by a margin for any game used with a single 1920 x 1080 monitor @ 60 Hz. With multiple monitors or higher resolutions or higher refresh rates you'd need something better like 980 for unrestricted eye candy at full speed.

Radeon cards are falling a little behind at the moment. They consume more energy to produce less frames per second. For a rough idea about how a certain card might perform compared to your current one or the ones mentioned look at http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html). Aside the familiar Radeons and GeForces you'll see FirePro and Quattro which are rather for CAD and 3D instead of gaming, so you can safely bypass them.

This is also a good resource, think of it as "bang for buck" http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html

And this will help you make sense of all of this
