You remember this hanger queen, don't you? Standard US halftrack with a canon on it? I remember taking one of these out only one time, quite a while ago. I drove it to the top of a hill over looking an enemy base to get LOS, then was promptly popped by a passing fighter. With no armor and a very limited traverse on the gun, this is clearly not very useful in the MA. However, allow someone to take one out with a couple more as drones (similar to bombers) and use it as an indirect-fire mobile artillery battery, using "Land" mode fire direction and the clipboard map (like AH ships do) to target an enemy base or position, and now you have a legitimate use for it in the MA. Use a spotter to call your shots long/short/left/right, and it becomes a pretty effective tool.
Restrict the load out when in "formation" mode to HE and smoke ammo, and make it a requirement that you be stationary to fire in indirect fire mode. Maybe even perk it's use as a formation. Perhaps make it so that, when moving, the three tracks are in line, with the player driving the lead vehicle. Once a player reaches their preferred firing position and facing, they stop and hit the "deploy" hot-key. The drone vehicles pull up beside the lead vehicle, facing the same direction, and only then can their guns be unlimbered and fired. If the player moves his lead vehicle, indirect fire ends and the drones fall back into line-a-stern and follow. This makes them very difficult to use against other vehicles in a direct-fire engagement. Just looking for an easy way to add mobile artillery to the game, using existing assets and code to the max extent possible.

Had a Bish named Erwin in LW, he was deadly in the M3/Cannon. We used to call it "Erwins M3 of Death" . :D

But I love my little troll wagon... That and my tiger killing jeep of doom...
-
When it first came out, someone got a screenshot of them flying over a berm and shooting an enemy tank while in the air.....much like machete did with his motorcycle.

Yeah, if you cannot figure out indirect fire mode without artificial assistance then you don't deserve to do it at all.
Just my opinion of course.

Funny, I know some guys that had enough people complain about the HQ hardness, that it was upped to 100k because of these things.
-
When I was playing more I used to take that thing out regularly. If you're in the right position you can land a lot of kills with it and it's fun.

This has been done many times lol.

Respectfully, I'm not sure what you're referring to by "indirect fire mode", though I'll admit to having been away from the game for a while. As far as "artificial assistance", isn't that what the ship and land mode are when using naval artillery? HiTech saw fit to not require players to learn all the intricacies of naval bombardment, in a similar way that he has greatly simplified engine management for us virtual pilots. Likewise the very simplified Norden that HiTech gave us; the real one took months to learn to operate, and required reams of data cards and reference material. Again, I'm just suggesting an alternate use for an asset that gets very little use right now. It's possible it would be a highly stabilizing influence in the game, of course. However, artillery is an integral part of modern warfare, but the land variety is virtually non-existent in AH.

There is no right war.

When you get to AHIII you will find that the hills overlooking airfields are severely reduced if not entirely non-existent (at least as far as Greebo maps go). Long range sniping will be a thing of the past on those maps. However, you can still use indirect fire if you have it figured out. Indirect fire is not built into the vehicles. There is no HUD, or optimized aiming device. However, there is a way to use tanks with a high vertical traverse of the gun barrel that can fire long range. All you have to do is work out how to aim it to hit things you cannot see.

Example and explanation would be appreciated, thanks. Always willing to learn new things.

Yes I can but I dont have the patience for it. I know several people that do it quite a bit lol

boob, your use of the M3 is one example of the reason I have not told anyone how to do it. Actually, I did tell a couple of people, but they didn't have the patience and never did get the hang of it.

Direct mode example is part of my control setup Pt 2 video where I shell a field from about 6k from an elevated position. I mention the general idea of indirect mode without explaining it in detail or giving an example. If you have ever been on OZkansas in AHII when I am in tank town, you know that indirect mode is a very real thing.

I have since removed the indirect AHII example from my online videos.
