I have one major gripe. Why is the Yak3 in this? That plane totally outclasses every other plane in this setup. Hell, that last time it was used it broke the design as far as I'm concerned. That plane is untouchable.

The FW190 A8 in an FSO??? :x

No email that I did update though :noid

It's in the setup because it was there. I put a max 24 on them for historic ratio purposes.
Sometimes FSO players put a huge amount of emphasis on a particular plane in an upcoming setup. Usually the logic goes along the lines that its some uber ride that will be unbeatable. I have seen posts like this many many times.
...more often than not it just does not work out that way. FSO is not a 1 vs 1 duel.
There is nothing super duper about a Yak-3. It is not the fastest nor the heaviest armed. It has a small ammo clip. It has a short range. Its certainly no better than a late model Spitfire.
I just don't see any issue with it.
Also...some setups have the Axis with the hot ride...sometimes the Allies have it. There is no monopoly on this.
Later. :salute

It climbs well, can dive at high speeds better than a jug, accurate well, maintain high speeds well and turns better and for some odd reason and can preformec well at high altitude.

The terrain has been changed to Black Sea to make it AH3 compatible. For info.
-
WOW. we are that close to AH3?
:rock
-
Wow...my mind is now blown...
-
Its just in case. I have no idea when AH3 is out but if say it came out after frame 1 we need a terrain we can use.

Devil, why not just fly Allied if you think its going to affect the battle so much? I know you love the Axis side but you must admit that sometimes one side is going to get a ride that poses a problem to the other side. The challenge of how to counter that effect is where you should devote your time. Besides its not like its that uber and as Squire said it was available and will be limited.
Hate to bust your chops bro, I do appreciate your enthusiasm and commitment to FSO but the complaints about the planeset gets old.

Here's the thing, Joker. It's not about being on the winning side for the sake of winning. It's not about your perception of an Axis Bias by me. It's about bringing the best balance to the setup, and having the the players decide who wins.
The Yak 3 was dominant historically when it was introduced, that's a historical fact. It was also dominant at the very end of hostilities, a year later. Likewise, our Yak3 is dominant over every axis piston plane in AH. The performance and easy flying characteristics of the plane makes it imbalanced in this setup. It's small ammo load is not a large negative either. Because of the fact that the Axis is pure defense in this setup, the job of the Yak is even easier. The Yak3's don't have to score a single kill to successfully escort their bombers and break up the Axis formations and push them. The fact that the plane is impossible to escape from makes it unbalanced.
I might as well make my other other issues now as well.
Fw190 units still utilized the A-5 in the summer of '44. Please add to the Axis.
LA-5 should have a 24 player max. It is likely to have a disproportionately high amount of this type otherwise. Can also be corrected by raising the minimum of P-39's to 24, or the Yak9T to 36.
The 20K cap for the bombers is too high. 15K is more reasonable for both historical accuracy and balance.

but, but , but what are the dates the frames are going to be played?
I do not see them posted anywhere.... I checked out AHEvents

Just by doing simple math, I doubt there is really any real issue with the plane set at all. Participation numbers have been steady to slightly down, and with nicer weather everyday that most likely will continue to be the trend.
So given the allies get 24 Yak-3's, and must fly 20 yak-9T's as well as 20 TU-2's we are already at 64 pilots. Now with the fact both side MUST use a 12 minimum of all air frames we can add 36 more to man the IL-2, LA-5, and that wonderful POS called the P-39Q, we get a grand total of 100 pilots.
I figure at best the allied numbers will be in the 110-120 area, and that may even be pushing it. So the limit on the LA is kind of a non argument. If there were an air frame that did not have to be used, then maybe it's a different argument.
Alt caps are meaningless to me, there is always a work around to them in my book.
Axis are on the defense, and I have to say it's a sweet position to be in all things being what they are in my mind, but my mind thinks outside the box too often, and gets me in trouble :O .......... But hey it's fun :x

I understand what you are saying Devil but no matter what the planeset is composed of there will always be an aircraft included that is better than all the rest. The only way that's not going to happen is if the aircraft involved are the same for both sides.
It has been my experience in these FSO's that having the best equipment is not the deciding factor. Player skill, leadership, and sometimes luck are usually the deciding factors. Some of the best players in FSO are decicated Axis guys who would decimate lesser players in a Bf-109 vs Yak3 battle even if outnumbered.
Someone else said "its not the plane, its the pilot". I would add to that its also leadership and planning.
As Jdog pointed out, the Axis has 100% fighters and the Allies have to put up TU-2's, Il-2's, P39's, and Yak-9t's. That's 48 players in aircraft that are mostly meat for the 109's and 190's of the Luftwaffe. I don't see how 24 Yak-3 and 24 or so LA-5's can counter that advantage unless the Allied side gets a real good tactician as CIC's.
Looks like we shall all have fun though!

It's even more than that...
Yak-9T (min 20)
P-39Q (min 12) * All aircraft must be used by a minimum of 12 *players*.
Tu-2 (min 20)
IL-2 Sturmovik (min 12) * All aircraft must be used by a minimum of 12 *players*.
Yak-3 (max 24)
LA-5 (min 12) * All aircraft must be used by a minimum of 12 *players*.
So, 64 Allied pilots will be in those first four rides. With average attendance around 110 players per side, you are probably looking at equal numbers of La5s and Yak-3s.
It should be a great fight as Axis fighters will outnumber Allied fighters by a little less than 1.5 to 1 :airplane:
