Title: runway heading
Post by: popeye on April 04, 2016, 03:37:39 PM
I've heard veteran buff drivers ask the "orientation" of a target field.  Seems like we should be able to know the runway heading of all the fields on the map.  (Or, is there already a way to know this?)

Most bases are oriented like they are on the clipboard maps but other than that there is no way of knowing besides memorize it.

Someone once claimed to have scouted all terrains to see what base orientations were at each base. Seems they had a lot of time on their hands. Send a scout plane.

Try loading a terrain offline or in custom arena. Turn on the nav-aid compass and see what you can find out.

The clipboard maps show the runway orientations.

Small field 045 or 225 depending on which way your coming or going.

Medium field has the same plus a 90 or 270

Large field has the same as the medium fields plus another at 135 or 315.

This is how it is on MOST maps. A few of the newer maps have a few fields flipped by the map maker to change things up a bit.

+1
This has been brought up before.  Fog of war is the common answer but that sucks.

I am guessing miss orientated bases are about 10% of the total number.

So, we can know the exact damage statistics about the field -- down to the tenths of minutes -- but not the definite orientation of the runways?

FoW, indeed.

I am with you Kong.

It would seem to me if they had a runway direction marked on the clip board then map designer's could be more free with turning bases at the map designer desecration.

MOST of the fields are laid out as I post, there are very few that are flip/turned. You could keep a note pad handy and mark the map and field that is flipped as you find them. You would only need one page and have room to spare.

Is this a new feature? Also, is this a clipboard, and how is it enabled? Thanks. Been away for a while, and even things that aren't new could have been forgotten (I've slept since last playing AH  :old: )

Here is an idea... do some recon before you bomb, or would that mess up gaming the game more? :neener:

I think air base orientation should be all different, and for towns also. Why are all towns on a map oriented the same? This makes thngs far too simple for one high bomber group to pork way too many bases and towns already. The Bish AM bomb pork run of half the map seems too easy, everything is oriented the same.

Has it mostly right except they dropped off the third digit, so it would be 4 and 22, 9 and 27, 13 and 31.

Perfect example of why runways should be circular.
