Looks more promising than the past four Star Wars movies, that's for sure!

They're working on three stand-alone films that take place between episodes III and IV. The next one will be about Han Solo and the third... wait for it... Boba Fett.

Aaaand again, Disney craps on all that came before for nothing but the sake of stroking their own collective... well, you know what.
Rogue One is Wedge Antilles, not some woman.

Wedge was part of Red Squadron in the Battle of Yavin in ep. IV, and Rogue Three during the Battle of Hoth in ep. V (where he was confusingly played by a different actor). This film takes place some time before ep. IV, so Wedge is probably an X-Wing pilot of Red Squadron stationed at the Rebel base on Yavin 4 at this time in his career.

Also if I were to venture a guess I'd say the plot of this film is part of the opening crawl of ep. IV:
"Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."
A.k.a. The Battle of Toprawa. The opening scenes of ep. IV deal with the aftermath of that battle, with Princess Leia fleeing from the Empire with the plans in order to deliver them to the Rebel Alliance.

Wedge was Rogue One in V. Dak was 3 as I recall. And the reason he was Red in IV is because Rogue didn't exist yet. Red became Rogue...

It was a different actor to try and show that he was all swollen up and nasally because he was allergic to banthas. Once they got off Hoth and his sinuses cleared up, he was back to his old self just in time to enjoy a delicious Colt45 with Billy Dee Williams. Now days they would have just computer animated that. The wonders of modern cinematography! :old:

Red Squadron still existed and participated in the Battle of Endor in ep. VI, but Luke and Wedge formed Rogue Group/Squadron as an elite special mission unit. In the Battle of Hoth Wedge was Rogue Three and with his gunner Janson (Rogue Two) destroyed the AT-AT. Dak was Luke's gunner who was killed.
"Rogue" isn't a particularly original name for a unit, so I see no reason for Luke's unit to be the first and only Rogue Group ever to have existed.

Well, you're right. I guess I'd forgotten the movies too much as I delved into the EU. Luke would have been Rogue One in the movies, only later replaced by Wedge.

Yes Wedge later became Rogue Leader. One of several characters to hold that position later on.

I think I'm looking forward to the side story films as much, even more, than episode 8. So many potential great stories that they can run with, it appears they really want to make that 4 billion dollar price they paid for the franchise worth it, and that works out great for the fans.

I will explain this for all to see.
The girl has been given the Code Name Rogue 1 from Mon Mothma, the tall elegant woman in white, due to the girl being very misbehaving attitude towards the Empire.
Rogue Squadron was formed by Robbie the Robot because he needed more screen time as a disguised astromech unit. :devil

There been talks to do one on Obi Wan. I would like to see something on the Old Republic too.

Frankly, I like the dark turn the new Star Wars franchise has going for it. Lucas put way too much 'unicorn stool' into his films and really diminished the overall story because of it.

Zev Senesca was Rogue Two. Janson wasn't flying with a callsign during the battle.
