Acquisition #1--This one for the wife , birthday present...a 1978 Bauer Stainless .25 ACP, faux pearl, never fired with case. A "Mouse" gun if you will. Cute though! And hopefully she'll never have to use it but she wanted convenience over size/caliber. I told her "You can always chuck the pistol when you run out of .25 ACP at the perp!" Basically a Browning knock off, except "well made".

Acquisition #2
S&W .357 magnum Model 66-3, pre-lock in SS, 6" barrel. Stole this in an auction so cheap you'd crap your pants if you knew for how much. The lack of a noticeable turn line on the cylinder would say that it's been fired very little, but it's not in my hands until tomorrow (Shipping from Maine) I've always wanted a 357 magnum, bucket list #48 fulfilled!

Great shots; love last one; :aok
I remember reading somewhere " all who draw the sword will die by the sword" .

Not these days Ghi. All who draw the sword will die by the gun. Ref: Indiana Jones.

That's like both guns Sledge Hammer used in the tv series!

Nice S&W there Rip. Unless you have a thing for those so called magna grips, get a nice set of hogues. Keep the original grips, it helps with resale value later on should you decide to turn the gun.
The 66 is my favorite of the revolvers. Great balance and handling characteristics. Should stand up to a decent amount of magnums use. If you practice with 38's it will last longer than a couple lifetimes. Used a 4" version as my first duty gun and got a 2.5" for off duty many moons ago. Both more accurate than I am.
-
Oldman, LOL!!!!
Thanks Mav! My stepdads service revolver was a S&W .357 mag too but unsure if it was a 19 or a 66.
His was blued as well.

Handguns are definitely about shot placement. Let me repeat: Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement. Even when it comes to shooting someone in the head, shot placement counts. My mother worked for EMS for 30 years. On 4 different occasions she talked about people getting shot in the head, and the bullet actually deflecting off the skull and not penetrating. Fortunately, most of these survivors were gas station clerks.
-
Why? Are you a gas station clerk?
-
In the 1990s, criminals would rob convenience stores and gas stations, then kill the clerk so that there would be not witnesses to the crime. This would usually happen late at night when there were not any customers around.
But no, I am not a gas station clerk.

I'm in the market for a German Model 98k Carbine (short rifle). Not looking for some high-quality museum piece, but I don't want some cheap satellite produced replica/captured either. I already have some historical pieces including a soviet 1943 mosin-nagant, German 1942 walther p38, and a japanese type 99 arisaka short rifle that I picked up directly from local shops. Little leery about online dealers and auction websites, but I know there are some good deals out there to hunt up. Any particular suggestions?
-
I'm not a fan of any self defense caliber under .38; as for the .357, you must watch for over penetration.

I have a Model 28, the Highway Patrolman. Best bargain in the country for a couple of decades. What a nice gun. Good luck with yours.

I have 4 other pistols as a choice for self defense over this pistol. The S&W 357 is a range pistol only. No way in hell could I carry a 38 oz (with no ammo) on my belt.

lol, I was eyeing a Model 28, but the price got beyond what I was willing to pay for it in an auction.

I still have my 28 I bought in '73 for my service revolver. Didn't want the 19 the PD handed out for service guns.
You are right, a great, hefty chunk of metal. Years of practice and qualifying I have no idea how many rounds I
fired thru it, probably more than I fired in 5 months in the infantry overseas. :police:

Rip, if your step dad's revolver was the same frame size and blue it was almost certainly the 19. The 6 series guns indicated stainless steel construction. The 66 is the same as the 19, just in stainless.
The model 27 / 28 (same gun different finish and accessories) were the original .357 frame. Very heavy as it was derived from the 44 russian / special that S&W had been making. That gun is a real workhorse and will keep running until you beat it with a sledge hammer. That same frame (L frame) is also used in the 29 (44 mag).
Given the choice of a pythion or 27 / 66 I'd go for the smith every time. I like the python for it's finish and smooth action but they are fragile considering the use that colt originally intended, premium duty gun. The "snakes" from colt are enjoying a resurgence in popularity from the walking dead show because Rick has one.

I cannot believe how the Snake gun prices have exploded over the past two decades Mav! Holy smokes! I am not a wheel gun guy so I will take your word for it.
The Bauer .25 ACP (arrived Monday) next to my first wheel gun..a S&W 66-3 .357 magnum 6" brl (arrived today)
The Bauer, from my google-net research on the innernets, appears to be a lower to mid-range S/N in the 32,000 range (they made them between 1971 and 1984, essentially a baby browning knock off), indicates it should be about my graduation year, 1978.:) IT WAS UNFIRED!!!!
The S&W .357 mag was cleaner, less fired than what I expected based on pictures of the auction. Turn lines on the cylinder? I couldn't detect ANY!
I couldn't be happier for these two purchases. No buyers remorse! (Pistol for wife's birthday and the magnum because I felt inferior after handling the .25 ACP)
Patience pays off (been stalking these two for at least 2 months, looking for the right condition and price)

HA! THe CZ is a fine pistol in the 9mm. Having not owned anything but .45 and .40 caliber pistols in the past, I really don't have anything to compare it to.
But it goes boom, groups nicely, and fits my hand nicely.
Only the 1911's shown are more accurate than that CZ, at least in my hands, but I'm only throwing about 500 rounds of pistol lead a month so I am not expert.

It's getting hard to pass up on really good deals, like low bids. :bhead
Colt 1908 .25 ACP Vest Pocket pistol. Made in 1919.
I won't get this one for about two weeks as it was a Rock Island Live Auction (online)

I have a little Beretta 25 I used to carry when riding my mountain bike. Little flip up barrel.
At 10 feet you are lucky to hit what you aim at.
-
Shuffler, my first hand gun was a tip up barrel Beretta .22. It was "ok" for accuracy out to about 7 yards. Great little pistols, the 21A Bobcats.
Great pics Ripsnort. What model is that 1911 Commander?

I have one of these vest pocket '08s Rip, from 1911. The way it comes apart is pretty neat. It shoots fireballs! As I'm sure you do, wear eye protection with that baby. I can feel bits hit my face sometimes.
It fits very nicely in a front pocket but I wouldn't keep one chambered. I've read it's susceptible to discharging from a good jarring.

Colt, Gman.
The only non-Colt is the Para Ord P12. (double stack, 3-3/4 barrel)

It's really not a carry for me, certainly not with one in the chamber, agree! But yeah, in a pinch, were I can't conceal anything else IWB, it will be a 'go-to' security approach.

My 2nd mouse gun arrived.
Cute little 1919 Vest pocket pistol followed me home via the USPS mail and my FFL fellow yesterday.
Steering clear of the wife for a few days. (http://www.waguns.org/images/smilies/peep.gif) :)
In reality its was a low bid in a Rock Island Auction that I put down in Feb or Mar (don't recall) and the Auction was held April 29th.
It's really in superb condition for 97 years old. There is one blemish of the left side of the slide beneath the stamped patent number.
Sorry for the cell phone pics, lazy this morning.

Where I live a roach gun would see more use than a mouse gun.

I just purchased a Benelli M-2 field gun.

Nice choice! What are your intentions with this shotgun? Birds? Waterfowl? Home defense?
My Remington Model 1100 semi auto does not have the reliability of a Benelli in the field. I was sitting on a goose blind a few years back in -10 deg and the venerable Remington let me down with a FTE followed closely by a FTF.
