Title: The perfect flight
Post by: Guppy35 on April 29, 2016, 11:56:28 PM
Just started flying again in the last couple weeks after a long hiatus.  Needless to say my cartoon flying skills, such as they are, were even worse than normal.   I was starting to worry the rust would never come off and I wouldn't get back to being the cartoon P-38G pilot I used to be.

But thankfully tonight it all came together and now I know I'm back!

Note the perfect configuration for my P38G.  Missing most of one wing, an engine shot out, smoking and lots of holes.  No kills, and in fact I don't think I even fired my guns, but all of a sudden I knew things were right with the world.

Even better is I managed to get back to the field, which was burning, as it should be.  The warm glow from the fire just told me I was home!

Now to land and break out the marshmallows.  As is my style when I'm on my game, I got it down on one wheel first, in the grass, no where near the runway.

I then using all my ability as a cartoon pilot managed to roll to the taxiway and shut the engine down.  I sure missed Aces High :)

I fly P-38L most of the time.  The fact that you got that plane back to the field at all is very impressive!   :salute

If you can land that bird in that condition, have no doubt about your piloting skills.

Dan .... I give it a 4 on the corky scale (ok ...a 5 cause u didnt bend the props)  .... there is still most of the tail left...so that hurt ur score. Usually ur bird only has half the rudders, vert stabs and elevator left hanging on  lol.  Hell, ur not even pilot wounded hehe.

The bright side is that one can actually be fixed and not scrapped for spares ( which might be a bad thing cause spares are in short supply lately)  , and ur pile-it doesnt need the hole in his head fixed  8). <S>

Wow Dan, you are rusty!  :joystick: Look how many parts you have left on that bird.  :neener:
I do like how you were able to get the right engine shot out to counter balance the loss of the left wing.  :airplane:

What are those wheely looking things sticking out from under the plane? Does it cost more per month to get those?

Welcome back!

BTW, some of my most memorable flights were not because I got a boatload of kills but that I made it back.

Good news everybody!

We were able to recover enough of Dan's lost 38 parts to fabricate a "new" one :rock

Hopefully Hitech Fighter-parts Inventory still has those parts we ordered so we can keep him flying :aok
maybe I can take up the Gangster model for a few flights without eating up too many spares.  :bolt:
