Title: nVidia confirms it is unveiling new Pascal GPUs tomorrow
Post by: Gman on May 05, 2016, 05:52:37 PM
Should be interesting. I was hoping the rumors of the "ti" card coming out with the x80 and x70 were true, looks like they aren't. Guess it'll be the 1080x or whatever they call it first for me, until the ti comes out in 2017.

Yeah, I'll watch it live, but I'm not interested in the GDDR5X version unless I have a card meltdown. I'm not saying that I won't 'help' a card fail, but it's the HBM2 cards I want.
EDIT: Man, that 8GB of ram is mighty tempting!

Things I will be looking for:
1) an answer to the 'W' question concerning HBM2 cards 2) an estimate on which card to get, or long it will be before we have a 4k card (4096x2160p) capable of 144fps

They just said that the 1080 is faster, insanely faster, than a current 980ti SLI. On its own. We'll see I guess. It's faster by far than any of the Titans as well by a huge factor they said. That's just for starters. Using much less power too. Good times. They're under production right now, the 1070 too, and will launch in June. Yay.'
The card in the room when doing some redering/etc tests was at 67 degrees, and running at...2.1ghz...on air cooling. Crazy.

Did they say 980Ti, or 980? if 980Tis, that's insane!
The Epic show reel sold me on the ability to realize human skin. I might have to readjust and get a 1080 after all. I really want that HBM2 though.

Nope, 4k@120fps Not quite GSync at 4k capable. :(
WHOA! 1070 faster than a Titan X for less than $400? Merry Christmas Aces High III!

First thing I said too Chalenge, the 1070 pricing which will beat the Titan/980ti should put a lot of guys into range for some high performance in this game and everything else. The 1080 specs...are nuts. Imagine what the ti will bring, and then the HBM2. And, if AMD stuff matches the rumors too...wow great year for PC gaming. Very happy surprise after the Thrustmaster disappointment.
The 1080 officially smashes 2 980s in SLI, and that' just at the 1733 boost rate - they easily overclocked on stage on AIR, not water, to 2.1 ghz...blown away, frankly. The 980ti sli will be beat as well, just not "smashed" as the 980sli is, which in my experience, isn't much off the 980ti s in sli anyhow. The 1070 smoking the Titan/98o ti as well at stock speeds....this is just fantastic news, and it's only going to get better. Extremely fair pricing too. Big time. I'm impressed with nvidia, walking the walk.
Cards are out to retail on June 10th, they are punching em out right now. I'm going to build a micro box rig with a 1070, it'll be able to play pretty much everything I have anyhow, and will be a neat little project. Of course, 2 1080s are going into my 6700 box and 5960x as well, unless Broadwell E pops soon too, then I'll just build that instead.
For guys with VR, the 1080 in the demo proved to be 3x faster than the current fastest card. That is an insane figure IMO, I sorta don't believe it until I see it myself. If that's true...

Well, if you are going to do VR then the 1080 is the way to go. I see some things in the numbers that Nvidia has released that make its performance in games like AHIII a little suspect. Can it outperform the GTX 980 SLI in AHIII? I think the answer is that the results would be very close. In other words, I want to see Anandtech bench these cards before I buy one. That's not to say that everyone should wait, after all if you are in the market for a 970, then the GTX 1070 is the logical move. The problem is that the GTX 980 is so overpriced on Amazon now that it's literally cheaper to buy the 1080. Perhaps the next few weeks will make a difference.
I'm back to waiting for the HBM2 memory, and I won't be doing VR until they get the bifocal blur worked out. If I do make a move before HBM2 it will be for two 1070s in SLI. That's already more power than any game needs.

Thanks guys.
According to the last block of this (later?) article May 27th for 1080 the the 1070 following in June. http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-launch/
I'll wait for a factory overclocked 1070 from a trustworthy vendor. I need time to save up the coin for it anyway.
If you see a noteworthy sale on such a card, please let us know.

You're right Easycor, I didn't see the 1080 release date, just the 1070, even better news.
Chalenge, I haven't seen any release dates for B-E, I've been hoping it would be simultaneous with Pascal, just for my own reasons, but first week in June would absolutely work for me.
Nvidia has rendered their entire current line up obsolete with their secondary 1070 card. If I wasn't so impressed with the news of the new 10 series cards, I'd have mixed feelings, having a full handful of 2 980ti, 2 980s, and a Titan right now whose trade/resale value is certainly going to be less than what I thought. The good news out of that is all of those cards including the 970 will run this particular game and its upcoming version very well, better than very well in fact. With the hype over the new 1080/1070 cards, many, many used cards will hit the market. So, cruising the used/for sale forums of various gaming boards and local bargain finder papers/online sites, will help a lot more players get faster GPUs for a lot less $ now.
Some pics/vid of 2 1080 in SLI near the end of this video, the new SLI bridge looks good, I've been waiting for them to make something a little better in this regard than current options.

KitGuru and WCCF have both stated Q2, and now the June Computex as the big "reveal," even though the stats are already known and benchmarks posted. Probably just a rumor, right?

Maybe, I will say quite a few of the rumors, not all, but a surprising amount, have turned out to be reasonably accurate, at least in terms of Pascal etc. Some not, but more than usual I would say.
Chalenge, you`ll like this, as you run SLI I know - apparently the new SLI system for the 1080s and 70s doubles the available transfer bandwidth compared to Maxwell and other predecessors. If that turns out to be even 1/2 true, being a fellow SLI enthusiast (right back to the 12 meg Creative Labs Voodoo2 cards I bought specifically to play Janes F15E), I'm pretty happy with that right now.

I'm going to pull the trigger on the AUA MB and then try to get it stable with maxed out memory. I want to find a setup that runs stable with 256GB of memory and four way SLI. I can stick with the M6000s for now, but I am hoping Nvidia introduces Pascal to the WS line soon.

Some interesting stuff regarding the SLI bridges is coming out, looks like they are only making them for SLI 2 way, and not 3 way+. Some rumbles here about higher than 2 SLI cards not being all that great. We'll see at the end of the month I guess.
As predicted, a flood of 970 and 980/ti cards for sale on used forums, Hardware Canucks up here has at least 1/2 dozen popping up every day, and it's a relatively small site for used HW.
I wonder what HBM2 will bring, if Pascal is as much a leap ahead of the last generation as predicted, HBM2 is going to boggle brains.

16k resolutions for multi-monitor setups (4x4), or 16k DSR is what I am hoping for gaming.
On the WS side just speeding up HD renderings by a factor of 1600 is a nice dream.

16 monitors (4 high x 4 wide), or the equivalent in resolution.
EDIT: Let me explain why.
At 8k you have reached the level that 'tech gurus' claim is the pinnacle beyond which humans cannot perceive any difference. So, at that point you can remove anti-aliasing and start pumping in extra resolution to provide greater clarity, while also enhancing shadows and anisotropy (where now a single pixel color represents the color fall-off of a leaf, for instance), and more important to complex models would be things like environmental effects upon reflectivity drop-off.
I think DirectX is limited in some of these areas. Reflectivity, for instance, seems to have a single value, rather then a maximum-minimum magnitude (falloff) which is a closer representation of reality.

Have a GTX 980, and unless I make a killer deal to sell it to someone and the 1080 benches really well, I'm waiting on the 1080Ti.
P.s. From what I read AMD is completely sitting out the high end. Again.
Title: Re: nVidia confirms it is unveiling new Pascal GPUs tomorrow

Don't count AMD out yet, HBM2 is coming from them as well - plus they have stuff to counter the 1080, I'll just be really surprised if they beat it, or tbh match it.
Boiler, the 1080 is going to be a huge leap from even the 980ti, the 980 for certain, a single 1080 is supposedly faster (hard to say in what or how exactly) than 2 980 in sli but a leap. 1080ti - you may as well wait for the HBM2, in fact, IMO, the 1080ti will likely BE the HBM2 first card they release, but that's just a guess, but a measured one. It'll be well into 2017 most like.
It's personal pref, but I'm selling my 980sli equipped system for a cheap deal and moving to 1080sli in a new box, and will possibly sell all the vid cards in our other systems, 980ti sli and a Titan for 1080s as well.
1070 will be the card that really sells I'll bet, better than current Titan performance for 379 bucks, crazy. Too bad VR and SLI don't get along, as a 1070 sli system would be a very cost effective solution, it may in fact be the best bang/$ out there for guys running 4k or 1440p 144hz LCDs. I'm going to run a 34" 1440p 100hz panel with my 1080s, and my ultimate goal would be to run 3, or 3 27" Asus ROGs, as I have 2 already. Apparently they've done a pile of improvements on the nvidia surround stuff for 3 lcds, and I know a TON of Aces High players run 3 panels, HT even said so based off their hardware survey that the program does when you install/update/etc.
Good year for Aces High 3 to come out IMO, big time. Fantastic new hardware, and a lot of really capable current gen stuff that will have prices drop like a rock, and which will also have a massive buyers used market.

Shuffler, Gsync does help with that, it doesn't completely eliminate it, but it does improve a lot.
AMD's Polaris 10 looks like it'll be 299$ and possibly be a 1070 competitor, about 80$ cheaper with similar performance. Likely won't touch the 1080 though.

There are leaked benchmarks out there and at least one of them is in English. It shows that the 1080 is leaps ahead of the Titan X, and if the ratio of performance holds between the 1080 and 1070 as it did for the 980/970 cards, then the 1070 will also bench higher than the Titan X.
We are still at least a week away from legitimate benchmark tests and on-hand reviews, and it may be as much as two weeks to coincide with the 1080 release. It just depends on the Nvidia embargo in place.
You have to realize that at this point there is no driver for these cards and so benchmarks are questionable at best.

A bunch of actual reviews hit the web yesterday. Looks like 30% better performance than the 980Ti from the reference design 1080.
My concern is that after years of doing hard launches (while AMD consistently does paper launches), why is Nvidia doing a paper launch too?
I'd be really cautious about pre-ordering this one. Wait for the reviews of the non-reference designs before buying anything. This is probably just Nvidia's marketing department making a stupid mistake, but it could be an actual problem.

My shop just got the pre-shipment info, they have cards from eVGA, MSI, and Asus for the founders edition coming next week, all listed at 699$ USD as per the pricing we've been given so far. I have 2 of the eVGAs paid for already, just waiting now.

I really did intend to bypass this release, but the whole "you can't three-way SLI" misinformation floating around has me willing to visit Frye's. It really is just a matter of applying for an enthusiast key and going from there. Have to think about this some more, but I think the 1080Ti can't get here soon enough.

As far as AH3 goes (as it is at this moment) I have it on good authority that if you have two GTX 980s in SLI that there will be a performance LOSS with the GTX 1080 if all you use is a single card, but only if you are playing at 4k. In other words, the GTX 1080 will NOT play AH3 at 4k with everything on any better than the GTX 980s in SLI. It will save you power, obviously.
So I'm waiting on HBM2. All I want is AH3 with everything on to run at 4k @ 60fps. If that means waiting on Volta (another two years) then so be it.

I'll test that this weekend, I'll still have my 980 sli setup and will have 2 1080s, so I'll try all combinations of 980/sli/1080/sli with AH3/beta and see what happens at various resolutions, I can run 1080p and 1440p on 27 and 34" lcds and 4k on our 28" Acer.
