There will be a small party at my house later this week. Can someone bring the cole slaw?
-
It is starting to remind me of the community we had at the end of Airwarrior; small, but close knit.
It would be a lot better if the number of bases didn't outnumber the players during prime time though. *nudge* Hitech *nudge*

and you see how much that helped Air Warrior.

It had a 16 year run, very good for an online game.

..... and as long as Hitech doesn't sell out to EA games we should be around for a few more years.

The AW community is still around and kicking. The BigWeek newsgroup I believe is still up, as well as a facebook page. When AW shut down, the community was actually quite large, with close to 38,000 subscribers when it was shut down.

It is.
Some people should pay more attention to it.
Just sayin' (t/m Pasha).

Can you post a plea from me? Ask if folks remember these:
Longbow (March, 1999)
...
Saga of the 5th Air Force, Part 1 (August, 1995)
Kursk 3 (May, 1995)
Sicily, '43 (August, 1994)
Imphal Plain (March, 1994)
Battle of Germany (January, 1994)
Indian Ocean (July, 1992) <--- the world's first scenario, invented by DoK, which started my love of the genre
Even today, 24 years later, I am carrying on the tradition, folks!
But . . .
We need players! Come back for a scenario and give it a try!

Who can forget Longbow? That (18-frame!) scenario was EPIC! I wasn't able to make all of them as some were played during the week at US primetime, but did do the majority on Saturdays and Sundays. I didn't have the confidence to fly myself as I had only been playing about 9 months by then - but I loved gunning and went as a dedicated gunner for my Krait Squadron CO, Spiff.
The end of the last frame of Longbow was my first experience of being totally absorbed to the extent I felt I was really there! We had been badly shot up during the frame and Spiff was gently nursing the smoking B17 back to Britain while I kept a look out for any further attackers. As we crossed the North Sea, we were met by some patrolling Spitfires (pilots who died could have another life in a Spitfire to patrol the sea and escort returning bombers). They flew around our B17 all the way back and I suddenly became extremely emotional as I looked out at them, tears welling in my eyes and a lump in my throat as I thought about how it must have been in real life.
Spiff made it back to land safely and a scenario I will never forget finally ended.
