One of the Thunderbirds F-16's appears to have crashed in the Colorado Springs area after the airshow for the AirForce Academy. Pilot ejected and is being evaluated.

Wow, a/c looks to be a good shape on the ground still - not sure how that happened if the pilot ejected, check out the pics. Maybe he ejected after he did an emergency landing, saw some lights, like the old "fire" one and decided getting out riding the rocket would be faster than trying to climb out.
With the already insanely undermanned/planed USN losing 2 Superhornets recently, the last thing the USAF/USN need is to lose another a/c, Tbirds or otherwise, nice to see it looks salvageable at least (basing this on recent articles all over the defense blogs that 1/2 of the aircraft in the inventory couldn't fight today if they needed to, or more).

Planes are replaceable. It takes 25 years to replace a pilot. Glad he made it out safely. I saw a news video that said he had just minor injuries, most likely from the ejection.
-
Seems like Blue Angels also lost one of their planes. http://wkrn.com/2016/06/02/lifeflight-responding-to-blue-angel-plane-crash-in-smyrna/

The odds of a Thunderbird and Blue Angel crashing on the same day are pretty astronomical.
-
Yep ,what are the odds? :pray
maybe some kind of solar emp; I read about a strong solar wind without solar flare or CME, expected to cause geomagnetic storm this week.

Any word on the navy pilot? Article said they still haven't heard. Probably not a good sign.

Wow, what are the odds. Sucks.
I've been posting a lot on other boards about recent defense articles about just how bad a shape USAF/USN planes/squadrons are in. Maintenance, morale, readiness, flight time, over worked ground crew - this is a possible result.
Hope the Navy guy got out.

saw an article that claimed that the average fighter in the USAF inventory is 27 years old.. SwAf have replaced all airframes twice during that period..
-
Unfortunately they are reporting that the Blue Angles pilot perished. :pray

Both of them?
Yes.

Heard some military guys in Florida if memory serves died today also in a truck accident. A lot of bad luck all in the same day. Prayers be with them. :salute

That looks almost comical...

It was a very bad day all around. Ft. Hood had an armored truck overturn on a low water crossing. They have 5 dead so far and I believe 4 still missing. There are three that were saved from the water.
Texas has some extreme flooding going on the Eastern side. We are currently hunkered down almost midway between Houston and San Antonio. Every river and creek we crossed over on the way from Louisiana the other day is at or over flood stage. Lots of folks homeless in Houston area right now. The flood news is very tragic and the property losses will be huge.

Our F-16s are 30-35 years old and won't be completely replaced until 2025. Maybe SAAB needs to make their planes last longer...

They found the other four. Unfortunately, they didn't make it.
I hope my buddy wasn't among them.
