Title: Good TrackIR profiles?
Post by: Wolf on June 12, 2016, 05:17:26 PM
Installed trackir this weekend. It seems to make things easier, but it feels jaggedy when looking around. Are there any good AH profiles for trackir, or some settings that work well?
Thanks =D

I have collected them from players in the game. Unzip and drop them into the profiles folder in the "natrualpoint/trackir/".
Load the TrackIR program and open the profiles list. The list will have all the new one listed by the players name who contributed it.

I for one have never had an issue with the IRTracker profile that is delivered with the tracker. I used it right out of the box and have never had an issue with the profile. What I have noticed is that you must be very careful about indirect light sources. Your description "feels jaggedy when looking around", is exactly the effect that stray light sources introduce. I play from a desk top in my den. On bright days, the room is flooded with sun light and I'm facing West with windows all around. Many years ago my wife suggested black out shades and that was the answer for my problems. Hope this helps.

Make sure the camera is centered on the reflector or LEDs and can track you as you move around.
Set some deadband for all axis so you don't have to hold your head still to have a steady view.
Map a convenient button to recenter TrackIR. Use this button dynamically. For example if you have to look up in an extended rolling scissors try looking down and recentering your view, then you can look up for the whole fight without neck strain. When you want to recenter normally close your eyes and relax with good posture then hit recenter.
Note that your hat views still work and convert TIR to head movement while holding the hat view.

Also note that it doesn't use the saved head positions you have unless you have the x,y, and z axis disabled for TrackIR.
Wiley.
Since you can move your head position I don't see that as an issue. For example, lean to one side while still looking forward and you can quickly look back around the headrest with the hat or keypad.
I disable the roll axis but more than that is a loss of utility for me.

But when you use the hat, your head starts from center, then you have to move with TrackIR.
The only reason I would want to use hat+trackIR is 6 view in the F6F and a couple of other planes. You can have a saved head position up by the gunsight looking back that I really have to do some bizarre head movement to get with TrackIR. Not a huge deal, just something I wish was different for the way I'd want it to work.

The smooth slider may be too far right or left. Go right with it first. I run mine about midway.
Don't forget the speed slider as well. Mess with that to see how you like the changes.

That doesn't happen to me. When I look back with the hat my head position is where I put it, it doesn't recenter.
Hmm... Ok, I'll try to describe it.
We all know without trackIR, you can save your head to different positions for different views, right? So for example, when you don't have any button pressed, you have your head centered in a neutral position behind the gunsight. However with planes like the F6F, when you hit back on the hat, you can put your head up as far forward and high as you can get it so you can see out the back as much as possible, so when you hit back on the hat, the location of your head moves there, right?
When TrackIR is enabled with X, Y, and Z, when you hit back on the hat, it doesn't use that forward and up location for the center, it simply turns the view back from whatever your center location is for your trackIR. If it's still unclear I'll try to get some screenies later.

I know what you're saying but it's still not a problem. I optimized all the default views for every aircraft in AH3 but I fly with TIR so I'm pretty clear on the differences. When you lean to the side with TIR and look back with a hat, button, or keypad, you don't need a saved view to have a good view. If you prefer a saved view that's fine. I don't need it.

I did not realize I could move my head then look back. Thanks for that FLS. It almost gets me where I want to be.
