The Channel Battles

10 July to 11 August 1940: Kanalkampf, ("the Channel Battle").

The Kanalkampf comprised a series of running fights over convoys in the English Channel and occasional attacks on the convoys by Stuka dive-bombers. It was launched partly because Kesselring and Sperrle were not sure about what else to do, and partly because it gave German aircrews some training and a chance to probe the British defenses. In general, these battles off the coast tended to favor the Germans, whose bomber escorts massively outnumbered the convoy patrols. The need for constant patrols over the convoys put a severe strain on RAF pilots and machines, wasting fuel, engine hours and exhausting the pilots, but eventually the number of ship sinkings became so great the British Admiralty cancelled all further convoys through the Channel. However, these early combat encounters provided both sides with experience. They also gave the first indications some of the aircraft, such as the Defiant and Bf 110, were not up to the intense dog-fighting that would characterize the battle.

This conflicts with Monday Night Madness in AVA AH II which I wish was in Ah III.

This conflicts with Monday Night Madness in AVA AH II which I wish was in Ah III.

Don't worry, it's not meant to be a conflict, it's a "weekly setup" for those wanting an historical setup in the Beta. Monday Night Madness is still running in the AH2 Arena until 3 goes live. If the Beta AvA starts filling up with more people, then MNM will likely move on over here but that's up to Jaeger. Some of our favorite terrains haven't been updated yet and there's no one on board to build replacements.

Download stops at the end and the game does not launch.  Anyone else have that problem?  I tried both DX11 and DX9.

Yes, same thing happens to me.

Yep, the same thing is happening here. I'll try another 20 minute upload but I may have to call Skuzzy.

Tank Map up and running had a lot of quick fun with Kenai77, but also had a few glitches and reported in the DX11 thread.

Edit

I don't know what else to do. I've checked everything on my end, finally found a possible bug and fixed that but it's still not going through.

I'll see if it will go through in the early morning hours.

When I see an upload taking 8 min instead of 20, I know something went wrong.

I think I've found it. Maybe.
See if you spot it.
Keep in mind that each upload took me ~8 minutes times 10 to 20 uploads so between 1hr 20 minuts and 2hrs 40 minutes staring at the upload window. Well, not really. I left during most of the uploads but still!
If that were all there was, it would have been easy, but between each upload, I was removing stuff from the source files thinking it has to be me. I still don't know for sure but this looks like the culprit. See if you can spot what I see.

That's me! You got it hehe.

We're back in business but it will probably be late tonight before I have everything rebuilt and back on the server. I'm thrilled to have it all working again.

That was after Hitech fixed the server and we managed a smooth upload.

That guy continues to impress. The path string with the / instead of a \ should have been a problem but isn't because he catches it before it can run amok. If you've ever done any code, you know how unusual that kind of thoroughness is. I certainly don't go to that much trouble!

Everything I took out is back in. I even took the time to add more GV spawn points in the Ardennes for Operation Bodenplatte.
You might know it as The Battle of the Bulge or The Legend of Y-29, and yes, Y-29 and the Ardennes both show on the CBM.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Channel Battle
Even though I'm anxious to do the follow-on setup, this one didn't get a chance to run what with the server issues, so I'm going to let it run another week.
Starting today, Thursday, June 23 and running the rest of this week and next until Tuesday July 5th, it's Channel Battle.
Now this doesn't mean that Thursday Night Tank Battle won't run, it WILL at 8pm EST TONIGHT.
Also, next Tuesday Night will be the delayed Bomber mission to blow up the V2s at Peenemuende.
It means that the rest of the time, when we don't have an "Event Night" running, you will find the standard AvA setup available in the Beta. Well, for the most part. This is Beta afterall so I've opened things up a bit. Things like Protect Objects is off and the icon range is 3k like the SEA. It's all detailed in the Message Of The Day.
I've opened up a couple more fields after noticing some people like blowing stuff up while waiting for someone else to come in. A182 is nearest to Antwerp and has 110s and a Stuka. Go blow up the marshalling yard and the (1945) Allied Supply Depot at North Antwerp. Enjoy.
All the toys are included in the terrain again!
Now that everything is working again, I can concentrate on fixing the city ground. Use zoom in the meantime to hide the water.
See you in the AvA Arena!
 :cheers:
Are you saying the "/" was user error?  If so then, yes, I am enormously impressed Hitech actually catches incorrect directory separators and fixes them.  One of the reasons I hate writing code for others to use is that they immediately break it and catching all the possible mess ups beforehand is more work than the original code.
