The Trinity map was before my time in AH. A couple of questions.
Was the Trinity map as good as I hear on vox and read on this forum?
Why was the map pulled?
-
It was a good map when we had the numbers to support and justify a map that size.
But just like most of the current large maps. That is no longer the case.
-
Yep they pulled it out of the rotation because it was a big map. I still see big maps right now like the one that was on last night.
-
Trinity was a large map, with 30k(literally!) mountains or very long distances across oceans seperating the three countries and, originally, a big tank town area sheltered by 30k mountains as well. The tank town functionalyty was basically lost by global terrain changes after 2006, making TT an empty place.
With enough numbers and a working TT it was quite a popular map in it's day (pre 2006).
Without TT and especially with lower numbers it was very difficult to get action going across those 30k mountains, in particular during non US primetime. As this resulted in beign about the only map almost never being reset (which I was able to show a few years), we spent large parts of a tour on a map with such obstructions.
My guess is that this eventually led to its retirement. Shortly after its spot in the rotation was filled by CraterMA

Would have been a great map if the mountains didn't exceed 5-10k. But otherwise it wasn't all that great unless you were in a vhorde.

You'll find that most of the people who liked trinity are frequent GV'ers because the initial GV spawns were easy to camp.
The map was terrible for the air war. The starting fields were separated by large mountains with a canyon in between and all fields had long flights.
Terrible map. I hope it stays gone.

I appreciate the replies. Thanks for the facts on the Trinity map.

30k mountains are part of what I liked about that mountain.
Ever driven a tank down a steep 30k mountain?

Wax, Morpheus and I rolled F6F's and set out to hunt TopGunz in TT. I ended up tracking FireHwk, who ended up ditching 90 kills in a Tiger I (trying to RTB and land at the hangar). He broke Channel 1 that night..... Wax pretty much pissed himself laughing. The Hell Gods were a fun group to wing.

As I recall there used to be a very close air spawn on both sides between the mountains in a canyon that was absolutely fantastic. Two good GV spawns in there and normally 50/60 people dukeing it out between both sides air and ground. Then there was the complaining by the select minority that this was somehow hurting gameplay because no one would help them take/defend bases, they all camped this furrball. At which point those spawns were removed and the map became absolute garbage.

There was no air spawn at all, and the base with the "Camp Spawn' layout was V135. And it was never removed, it stayed active until the map was pulled.

Yep, good riddance...... sorry for beating the poor dead horse :lipsrsealed:

He may be talking about A1. There was always a big gv fight just south of the field at the entrance to the canyon. The air fight was between A1 and the field just south of the canyon mouth.

That place was still there right up to the end.

A1 and I think the V28 fights were the best on any map, the canyons just funneled the aircraft in to a tight fur ball of action.
I hope the put it up for a few days before AH3 goes live, would be a good thing to see and some of the other older maps that were around.

How many remain?
Bummer... the good old days.

Okay, I will take one more swipe at the carcass........ NEVER!!!! C'mon folks really? One good fight between only 2 or the 3 countries??? Egads (I thought that was a word :uhoh ) please let it rest in peace.

I didn't mind trinity the death canyon at A1 was always fun.
Soon as a front was broken through there were some good fights. I guess the GVers spoiled it when they realised the camp area was always on.

Canyon death fights were my favorite memory of this game. You would have GVs trying to bum rush the field and aircraft would be dog fighting above all the GVers so they could enjoy the show. So much fun.
