Im wondering if I shoot someones wing off, or some other major airframe damage, will I always get the kill when they crash or die?
even if someone comes up after the fact and blows them up?
-
I believe the player that does the most damage will get the kill. I shot up a bomber the other day and though I didn't see any parts missing I was awarded the kill after a friendly blew him up. :aok

It depends on how much Damage u put into the enemy. I have clipped enemy wing tips and someone comes in a finish them and i get the assist. I guess only if the complete wing was gone. Again it all depends on the most damage.

Best I can tell a pilot wound trumps plane damage.
-
so it is worth it to continue shooting until he blow up?
-
The pilot with most damage done to the plane gets the kill. It has nothing to do with whether part are falling off or not.

I would say no, in a furball that most of the time means that you put yourself in a disadvantageous position and you will most likely be killed by his friends. As soon as you see that the con have received fatal damage you should break off and look for next target.

if he's still flying he can still kill you or go land.
fire until his plane goes down in flames.

Not if he looses a wing or his tail, he will fly for a bit but will eventually crash. With other cons around it still not a good idea to chase him all the way to the ground.

Once "lethal damage" has been done, damage that comes after it does not count. So if you blow off his entire wing or split his fuselage in half, after that it stops counting. However, if you only blow off the outer wingtip I believe it likely still counts.
Not quite sure where tail shots/pilot kills fit into that.
My personal feeling is if he still has control over his aircraft he hasn't been shot enough and might still pose a threat, but that's just me.

I have nursed many a stub wing plane back to a safe landing on multiple occasions. If I see a damaged plane in close proximity and it is not immediately headed towards the ground, I will put it down. Better safe than sorry. :aok

twice i have seen a person shoot a plane down and i got the kill because i was closest when the enemy hits the ground. and both times i never fired a shot. but i was close to them when it happened. an example: a guy was vulching, but got zapped above the runway as i was taking off. he crashed in front of me and i got the kill, but i literally done zero to bring him down. if it depended on who does the most lethal damage, i wouldnt have gotten the kill. i think its a proximity thing sometimes.
-
What happened there is you got a prox kill because the friendly that shot him died. You don't get awarded kills posthumously.
You get prox kills if a bandit crashes within a certain range of your plane (2k?).

nope, neither one of the friendlies died

More than one plane can fly quite well (relatively speaking) with one wing. I've even beat people in combat with one wing a time or two.
And to the OP - yes - it's entirely possible some dweeb will follow your 'kill' down and get the kill if you only wing him.

You sure they put rounds into him, or did ack get him?

If this happened the way to described, it's a bug. From what I have seen, even one ping will get you the kill if no one else hit him at all and he crashes (as it should be).
Now it's possible the friendly didn't get hits, and they augered trying to avoid the hits. In that case, if you were in proxy range you would get the kill. Without film, it's conjecture. You didn't happen to film it did you?

sorry meant to respond yesterday, got tied up a bit. but anyway, i have a film of this. i mark a tank for Slate, and make a second pass a few seconds later right as Slate drops an egg on him. i end up getting the kill on a jagpanzer. Slate and I talk about what happened and are both baffled, since he dropped a bomb on him and all i did was mark him. we see Slate drop the bomb, and as it hits LOBO's jagpanzer, my plane is the closest to him as he blows up. then i got the kill even though all i did was mark him. surely a few 20 mms dont outwork a bomb right on the head.
P.S. i dont know where to post film or how to, so just let me know and i will.
-
If a plane strafe a tank enough he can get the kill when someone else bomb the tank even if the rounds doesn't inflict any apparent damage.

Email to htc and point out the possible bug.

If that is true it is really really stupid.
Only penetration or rocket/bomb hit should give a kill.

I don't know if the chute guy can still kill a tank by shooting the driver right between the eyes through the viewing hatch. Any size of ammunition penetrating the opponent's skull will cause instant death. I'm not one of those who can aim to any named point, but shooting enough mg bullets at low angle one might just sneak in through the gap. Luck and coincidence can do a lot.
37 and 40 mm rounds can do quite a lot of damage, too, despite them not falling into the rockets/bombs category.

I bet what happened is the guy in the tank towered when he heard the bombs coming not realizing he had been hit by a bullet.

That sounds quite plausible.

do you guys think they should implement a critical damage "lock"
ie
you shoot the tail/wing/engine/(any flight critical component that later causes a crash) off a plane, and a friendly comes in after you can kills the pilot you should ALWAYS get the kill?

That is how it is set up. Once a player gets to that critical level of damage no other damage counts. However it isn't knock a wing off and you get the kill. You can fly a pretty damage plane a long ways and so you won't get the kill if the guy is skilled, or if your in a furbal and go down before he does
