Title: Anyone want to tryout a Death Dot for me?
Post by: bustr on July 08, 2016, 01:10:29 PM
I'm testing light effects through the gunsight now that it looks like Hitech has lighting about where he wants it. I'm working on that nimbus over glow you see in some color photos online when the gunsight rheostat is turned up full. In the beta while you are in flight you can open the gunsights app and move the alpha slider to dim and bright your reticle.

Give this dot a try along with dimming and brighting it in flight. Copy both files to your sights directory.

The best setting for me was mid position for the slider.  Full left no gunsight was visable.  Full right and it became fuzzy.  An over glow as you said was always there no matter what slider position.  Graphics on default.

I'll give it a whirl tonight too, death dot is my sight for everything pretty much, so I'll be happy if you've improved on the already decent one in AH3 beta.

Randy,

Guess very few like visual light realism in this game now that it is possible. That is how dots looked projected on glass using the technology of the time. I have a completed MKII for the British gunsight that over saturates with an orange nimbus just like the photos when the slider is to the right.

Optical gunsights needed a rheostat to control the glair at full bright that created the nimbus effect and allow changes for the time of day or night. The projected reticles were not the crisp 2D images we have come to depend on in our cartoon game. You get closest to that by dimming the alpha but, have the same real world problem of the reticle fading away. So your description of the slider sweet spot about center is accurate.

You didn't like seeing that realistic orange light in your reflector plate.... :O

Interesting Bustr I had not thought about the real view look of the day.

You know, this is like sound packages for AH.  Do you want real sounds or do you want artificial and or enhanced sounds that immerse you in the simulation.  Most will take enhanced.

Randy,

Here, stick these in the sights folder and load it into a spit9 or Hurri. Then launch and open the gunsight app and move the slider from side to side. Spit1-5 had a real problem with a double image due to the windscreen not being at 45 degrees. You learned to aim with the bottom image and accepted all the orange glare.

Here this is junky's fault.

I've added the zip download to the post instead of my external site. I'm not sure saving the bitmap image will give the fidelity that the zipped up file will. This one is just a 256 8bit so you can copy it alone directly to the sights folder. Play with the alpha slider and time of day.

.time 00 00 0-10000

Time is entered in 24 hour notation, 0 freezes time, 1 is normal time, and increasing up to 10000 will be warp time.
