This is Leonard Richard Stanway, known to us in Aces High as F77, Mossie and Hurricane 1 pilot extraordinaire. I don't know his condition, but was told by a mutual friend it was serious. F77 is a super guy, and had just recently been through a personal loss. Please pray for his quick recovery.
=S= F77!!!

:pray

My best wishes for F77.
Flying with him in Battle Over the Winter Line.

This is one of the most squared away men I have met in this community.
He has given his time to the AH3 development project which is where I first chatted
with him. He is the king of running the software on bare min hardware.
He and I share a love of motorcycles and the famed Isle of Man summer races where he works as a corner marshal.
Prayers going up for a real online friend.
:pray
-
If anyone gets updates on how he is doing, please let us know.
Best wishes to him and his family.

Top bloke :old:

Very bad news. Hang on in there Leonard, we are all praying for you! :pray :salute
Coppr, please keep us updated if you can.

Will do, Shida. All I have is what is posted on his FB page.

Leonard's a scholar and a gentleman.
I'm not a religious person, but I'm praying for his recovery.
Hang in their buddy.

Leonard is in an induced coma, heavily sedated. The link is to a post on his condition.
-
Can't see the link, prayers sent anyway. :pray
-
Sorry Bizman, I'll transcribe it.
"Many thanks for all the good wishes. They are much appreciated. Leonard is still deeply sedated and on a respirator in intensive care. However the medical team are going to start easing back on the sedation and we have to wait some days now to see whether and how he responds. Progress is likely to be very slow, and there probably won't be any to report today, so I'll post tomorrow with an update unless there is news sooner". This is from a friend of his.
-
Hang in there F77, best wishes for a speedy recovery, :airplane:
-
:salute sorry late on this, get well soon bro.
-
oh dear. I am so sorry to read this.
F77 is one of the good guys. I really hope he pulls out of this.
:( :salute
-
They have started to wean him off of sedation. Wish I had more, but that's all that's been posted by his mom.
-
Prayer sent, hope all will be well :pray
-
From F77's Mother: "Leonard remains unconscious and the delay in responding is growing to be a matter of real concern. However there are minor positives. He is still on the ventilator for support but breathing, at least to some extent, for himself. He has also had his broken jaw fixed. I'll update when I have any more news."
-
Really bad news. Clearly a nasty head injury. Of all the people this could happen to. :pray
-
Thanks for the updates. Still :pray
-
Just checking back in. Still in our prayers.
Come on buddy
-
Thk you for the updates copprhd.
-
Such horrible news, flew with him several times, praying for a good recovery :pray
-
From Leonard's mother today: "Leonard remains comatose and unresponsive in the critical care ward with very little sign of any change." This freaking sux.
77 is a really fine person, and this world can't afford to lose a single one.
-
Thx for keeping us updated.... sad.
I hope things will change for the better!
:salute
-
:salute still thinking of ya bro :pray
-
The latest post, day before yesterday, was that he was still comatose, and the doctors would be trying new medication to awaken him. :pray
-
Still praying for 77.
-
I hope he awakens. :pray
-
Sending positive thoughts.. :pray

Sending positive thoughts.. :pray
Same here.

A FB post came in tonite that said Leonard(F77) had been moved within the ICU, and that his eyes were open. It also said that while he's not fully conscious, he has begun responding to a physiotherapist's requests. :rock :salute
-
That's great news!! hopefully he continues to make positive progress. :rock :pray
-
That is great to hear. Hope he continues to improve.

Fantastic news :old:

"Update: Leonard is definitely looking a bit more alert - spending longer with his eyes open and looking at things around him. When he is at his brightest, apparently he's been able to squeeze hands and look at things on command. All of which is excellent progress. On the other hand, it's clear that his rehabilitation is going to take a long time - and we're probably talking months here. He's still not able to communicate, and hasn't shown much sign of recognising family or responding to comments. I've been reading all of your messages, cards and comments to him, of course.
He was moved out of the ICU and onto a ward (still at the Walton Centre) yesterday evening - which is definitely a step in the right direction, but it's going to be a long path."
This is from his mother, on his page, yesterday, I think it was.
-
:salute
-
:pray
Take your time, we're patiently waiting.
-
Get well soon.....
-
Slow recovery is still recovery. :salute :pray
-
Thanks for the update coppr :old:
-
Once he's home, fire up aces high and select the base where the action is.
The range chat may trigger something positive.
-
Yes :)
-
:salute :pray :pray still there for ya bro we will be here when you return
-
Thanks for the updates Copperhed.
-
From his mother, today: "Leonard is much the same this week as last - appearing reasonably alert when he's awake, but spending most of the time asleep, and still not able to speak or communicate/react significantly to his surroundings. He has clear difficulties with motor control, especially on his more badly injured right hand side. Other than that, it's kind of hard to add anything to what I said before - he's progressing, but slowly."
-
thank you Copprhed.
-
:salute
-
Any updates?
-
1 hour ago, from his mother:
Update: Progress remains slow. Leonard is still struggling to control his movements, and while he appears interested when I play audio messages to him or when someone is saying something interesting, it's hard to tell how much he's taking in or understanding.
There has been something of a change of plan - Leonard's going to be moved onto a specialist rehab ward here in Liverpool when a bed becomes available so is unlikely to be moved back to the island (as originally planned) in the near future. However we've been warned that it'll probably be six months or more before we have a long term prognosis regarding his recovery and the extent of any permanent damage. I will update when I have any significant news.
-
Thanks for the update. We're still pulling for him. :salute
-
Fire up the game and see if that get's his attention.
-
Good she shouldn't continue to do more frequent updates when this is a long process.
I hope he continues to improve and you will post any news as you see it.
Thanks for keeping us posted I'll keep him in my prayers. :pray
-
It seems that she's giving updates weekly. I hate to sound pessimistic, but it doesn't look hopeful that we'll get our buddy back any time soon, if at all.
He took one hell of a shot to the head, evidently. It's heartbreaking, it really is. :pray
-
My hope is that in the near future there will be stem-cell therapies that work for brain injury and strokes. There are some very good results in the R&D stages.
-
Yes :old:
I live 20 minutes from Liverpool

:salute :pray still thinking of ya bro hang in there :salute

:salute any update on f77? :pray
-
I am one who doesn't know F77 very well, but in my dealings with him I was impressed by how he views the world, motorcycles, and by his love for the Isle of Man.
Knowing what I do about Leonard, he might be just a little mystified at the well wishes and concern being put in this thread. He wouldn't think he deserved it.
But he does.
This community rocks. Keep the prayers going up.
:salute
-
Update: The rehab seems to be really helping. Leonard is far more alert and aware than he was when I last saw him (I work full time so at the moment that's once a week). He's been interested in messages sent to him, and more than that - he went straight for my laptop keyboard, and after a lot of effort and several false starts was able to give me his Facebook password. We went through some of his messages and saw some of his new feed.
Honestly, this is the first clear evidence I've seen that he's fully aware and has good memories of what happened before the crash. It's only in the last few days that any of us have seen that.
So, since my parents aren't the most tech-savvy people in the world, don't expect to see Leonard online often, and it takes a lot of effort to type even one word, so don't expect to get messages from him - but you might occasionally see him online!
-
Great to hear Coppr!
Send Len a message that everyone at AH is pulling for him, plz.

I planted a new Mosquito for him in craterMA. With correct amount of water and fertilizer his new mossie should grow Hispanos and a pair of ripe Merlins just in time for F77s grand return :salute
Good news. Thanks Copperhead.
-
Copprhed that's wonderful news. I don't know F77/ Leonard, but I have read this thread every time I log onto the "board", hoping for positive news, and have become wrapped up in his progress. God speed your recovery, F77. :pray

I just want to say thanks for all the support guys <salute>
I have tried flying but I really need rudder control, besides the latest update failed and I need to reinstall AH3, I also don't have mic and phones and my aim is lousy. At least my films appear ok https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbqe4pM4POs
I miss all of you guys but I am stuffed until I get home. it has been 201 days but could be a while yet.
Salutes and thanks

Why that sounds like 99% of us on the new roll out. Join the crowd! Good to hear from you.
Edit: great perspectives in your film. Loved it.
-
Glad to hear your aim is back to normal!!! :devil
-
There was a point where I'd truly thought I had lost my friend. Words don't express my gratitude that F77 is still around, and still posting his AH2 video of him in a Hurricane 1 kicking my derriere. The world needs more "humans" like Leonard.

Thanks Brooke but if I want to use this laptop I will have to invest in a usb type since there is no external mic port, only one for headphones. The thought is really appreciated though!
