New Mel Gibson movie

Except for the CGI flaming soldier cartwheeling in slow motion, the trailer looks good.
When he said: "let me save one more", I think I got something in my eye.
-
It looks good, but at the same time not. Could be the kind of movie that makes way too much out of the "he does not believe in guns" thing.
Anybody know the particulars of the history behind the film? Seems strange that the Marines would let somebody who refused a firearm serve in what looks like the the infantry. There had to have been some rear guard position that could have been filled by that type of person.

Yep. :aok

I had the crazy idea to use google to learn about it.
Three minutes later I was enlightened.

I read a book called "Medic!" about a conscientious objector who served as a medic (with no weapon) during the Vietnam War. I'm sure the Navy had its fair share of COs too.

Excellent thanks.
Nothing in that trailer indicated that he was a medic, which makes sense for a conscientious objector to be. But I seriously doubt that Doss dealt with the kind of animosity seen in the trailer once he was deployed.

During the war it was very common for conscientious objectors to serve as medics instead of combat soldiers.
But I seriously doubt that Doss dealt with the kind of animosity seen in the trailer once he was deployed.
Sometimes they did face animosity by other military personal and civilians because of their conscientious objectors status. It was a common feeling in those days that the conscientious objectors were trying to get out of the fighting while the "real men" went and fought.

After reading his MoH citation... I doubt anybody messed with Doss...Now I bet they did call him crazy...that man must have clanked when he walked...huge brass ones... :salute

I can't help myself, but every time I read the title, I somehow skip the "g" in the word "ridge". I seem to have a split opinion about riding a hacksaw.
