Title: Hunting Season
Post by: FX1 on August 05, 2016, 09:38:50 AM
Anyone have any hunts scheduled? I have three payed hunts on the book for Elk, pronghorn and Aoudad. For the last 6 month i have been training for the elk hunt. I went into last years hunt in good shape and it kicked my ass. This year hopefully will be the year i come off with over a 300 class monster. I also purchased a new hoyt and upped my long distance rifle to a 300 weathberby for the long shot that i expect for the aoudad. As always i will be hunting my ranch for whitetail and pigs. Also i have a new member to the family. She is a german short hair pointer and loves to find quail so we will be trainer her this year and hopefully she will become one hell of a hunting dog. She is the least gun shy dog i have ever been around and will point a fly in the house. Very excited to have her in the camp.

Sounds like fun FX!

I look forward to partridge (ruffed grouse) hunting this fall.
We've seen lots of birds around, and lots of chicks this spring.

Never hunted grouse before.. next year after the dog has a season under her belt I am definitely going pheasant hunting. This year our quail population is awesome so I am expecting a good year.

We look for them on logging roads. They come down to the road for gravel and are not spooked by vehicles.

Once we see them, we go past them by about 200' and then get out. They hold tight so dogs good but are not really needed. They flush at about 50' or closer, and almost always across the road. Great fun.

I look forward to your elk hunt pics.
