This is my Build for August 2016. Very Easy build for the Novice. Will Add some photos tomorrow. Running at 2k 144 hz
This is my build for August 2016. I play IL2, DCS and Aces High. Can max all settings out with no problem and system runs really cool. The prices are for 08/09/16 from Amazon. Build it in about 3 hours, would of been less but the Heat Sink is really big and I was skeptical of it but works great. The Extra fans I ordered were 2 for top blowout and one for front intake. U pretty much put it together and put the windows disk in and it does the rest 'no crazy Bios Settings' The only thing I had to do was after it installed window, I updated it and went to the Asus 'video card' and Gigabyte 'motherboard' web pages and installed their drivers to make it current. I didn't use any of the supplied hardware disk that came for any driver updates.

Oops I didn't use the Viper ram, I bought it but used the Balistix ram 32 MB instead.

Not bad at all.
Do you use Wi-Fi instead of wiring for online gaming? If that's for a reason, OK. But if you can easily access your modem/router using an Ethernet cable, it might improve your game. As you may know, Wi-Fi is only half-duplex whereas a wired connection is full-duplex. For those who don't know what this means: Data is transferred in bunches containing packets. If a packet is lost during transfer, half-duplex will wait until the whole bunch has come through until the system can send an error message. Full-duplex will send the error message immediately on the returning lane. Sort of having a one-way street changing direction after unloading a truck versus a two way street.
For those who read this for inspiration or instructions, the supplied hardware disk of a brand new motherboard often contains exactly the same drivers as the website. The disk usually contains a ton of crap, too, so be cautious. It may also contain drivers that the manufacturer hasn't put on the support site so it's worth checking.

My DSL Modem is about 40ft away in my sons room. It's been a long time since I had my computer hooked up by Ethernet, so maybe it's something I should try. Is it something that I wouldn't notice like missing the plane I'm shooting at because that's definitely happening? LOL. other than that it seems smooth but I have wondered in the past if it did have something to do with not making hits. Thanks for telling me about that. This is my first build since 2005 so if some components would be better than what I have please post. I mostly selected what I have from computer build recommendation sites.

I personally would do the Samsung 850 Evo SSD drive series...they have been a monster for me in my current rig. Also you might want to consider at least 16GB or RAM as the video and CPU you have will feel like you are running on fumes with just 8GB. It does make a difference in the long run. I am looking at putting another 16GB in mine to go to 32GB for some of the stuff I am having to do for work.

Yes, you can miss a plane because the packet telling where your target is might get lost and you see the previous situation instead of his maneuver. A single packet loss here and there might not be an issue, consequential ones are.

Ethernet Connection will definitely give you a smoother and stronger connection.

Well, for most practical applications and for video games, 8GB is plenty unless you are also running virtual machines and rendering movies simultaneously. The real reason to get more ram is simply because it is so damn cheap. Where 4GB of DDR2 used to be $100, 16GB of DDR3 is now 50-60.

I am getting 60 to 110 FPM in AH3 Online at 2560 x 1440 - 144Hz This is with all setting maxed out in options and Textures at startup maxed out at 4096. It looks great. I was getting a choppy look with my GTX 880. Offline it is slower for some reason 50 to 80 FPM. I haven't been able to bog it down running IL2 or DCS with all settings maxed out. This card is excellent. I did install 32 GB of Ram instead of the original 8 I was going to put in. I used the Gigabyte compatibility chart to select the ram but I guess if I knew more I could have purchased faster Ram but it seems ok. Video and CPU Temperatures are very good. I haven't played AH3 a lot yet but now maybe I'll try to get used to it. I tried the GTX Booster Software that came with the 1070 but if u enable it I get 80+ online. I would need to watch it before I use it much to make sure my temperatures don't get excessive. The card came with some really nice and easy to use overclocking software.

Compatibility is more important than speed. Back in '98 I was told that the amount matters more than speed within the supported RAM type in question. That still seems to be true based on the test reviews of current memory types. The performance boost can only be seen in benchmarks, not in normal use.

I picked up a box with the 1080 in it at Best Buy. I was impressed with the similarity in weight compared with solid gold. Still not buying one though.

I'm not convinced, it costs almost twice as much, while offering a 25% speed increase. I'd say the 970 is a better bang for the buck for now.

I have the 970 bought it for almost 400 bucks. now it sells for a lot less. I play ah3 with full frames, everything on and 1 notch of em. have a 2500k cpu.

Be sure to look at the GTX 1060. They appear to be selling in the same price range as the 970 and offer better performance while using less power.

Using GTX 1070. I found that if I lower Object detail frame rate gets really bad, I guess because it has to compute to omit objects? Selecting shadows will bog my system down.
