Title: Mouse Controls AH3 vs AH2
Post by: JunkyII on August 18, 2016, 10:35:39 AM
I think the addition of coordinated rudder with the mouse movements is a +1 over AH2 but overall I think new guys who are testing out AH3 are going to struggle even more, mainly because if they roll their plane over they are going to struggle getting it back up right...seems like it doesn't want to let you roll inverted or roll back from being inverted, which is a huge part of a lot of ACM. Also not sure if it's just my DPI or mouse settings but when viewed from chase, trying to turn looks a lot like stick stirring from AH2....can't imagine what it will look like from the other side of the fight when you add latency into it.

Thoughts?

Way back in the alpha Jurassic park days of testing this. I remember a few remarks about this system and how newbies were going to be sitting ducks and such issues. Hitech seemed more concerned that mouse commander mode was there to help a person fly around in our world to see if they were interested in it. We were only asked to test it as far as taking off, flying around, then see if we could even frag a drone.

I take it you tried it out recently. Were you able to take off, fly around, and frag a drone?

I could, personally I feel mouse control should allow a player to be at least competitive against someone using a stick...AH2 you can(example Lazer) but I doubt Lazer can fly half as good in AH3 as he can in AH2.

Junky,

Beyond this point, I wish you well and maybe Hitech has more refinements in mind after the green ring meets the green neophytes. Just getting it to where it is was a lot of work from the amount of time Hitech put into it. And the fact for one patch he completely disabled joysticks to force us to test only it.

I hated the thing because of 20 years using a joystick and others had the same issue. But for the neophyte who is not joystick centric at all, this will let him look around in offline mode. I think that is what it is meant for. I flew better by defining my mouse in the controllers app and using the keyboard for my rudder.

Hardcore flight simm fans new to this game will have a joystick. Casual game players checking out a new game will probably only have a mouse. Never did find out if the beta would look at a game pad as two joysticks. Do you have one you can test??

Mouse commander mode should not be a default either way no matter what.

I see now when i pull up a map it doesnt kick me to that mode,  but opening the text buffer still does.
