VF-17 would like to give a big :salute to the group of KI-61s we encountered early in the fight at A71. You kept your altitude and speed and generally made life difficult for us for the whole running dogfight all the way to the targets 2 sectors away. We just never could quite get up to your altitude and engage you consistently. One of my squaddies pointed out that he had never felt so low at 25K. Was great fun. One of the more enjoyable fights in my FSO experience.

Pigs were there. Ran into two or more groups of F4U's at A71 and then it was on for the next 25-30 minutes. Well fought to all of you. <S>

Ya what a massive fight <S>

That was quite a rolling battle from 71 to 70 all the way to target. Every time I dropped a couple thousand feet to engage an enemy I would get back up to 25K and see I was below 3-5 more axis fighters. It was a fight right up to the alt cap.
I think that was the first time in an FSO where I saw, engaged and shot at all 4 enemy plane types. A very tough go for the bomber guys when the fighters get to mass like that, but it sure does make for lots of action.
A smart salute to the axis fighters who kept their alt and fought a disciplined battle over A70 and to the allied bomber guys who wound up taking the brunt of a massed defense.
If a long period of intense action is what we want out of FSO, we sure got it last night!
:salute
