I understand that the Strat Map generator has conversion defects. Will that be online soon?

There's not special tool for that. Strat Maps are made by the terrain builder but they're optional. The best ones require custom ground textures and/or GIMP/PS work.

Right, trying to get a status on the bug found in the Terrain SDK. The Terrain Team can not create the Strat Maps unless the bug in the Terrain Editor Tool was fixed.

Are you talking about something outside the Terrain Editor OR the TE's Make Map function?
My only objection to the TE's Make Map function is the size of the base Icons, but otherwise, it does a fine job in creating a basic strat map that can be imported into GIMP and cleaned up. Now if you're talking about base maps for the in-game CBM then that's a different item entirely.

Yes, just the basic map for folks to do their event planning on for special events like FSO and Scenarios. To my understanding there is a bug that will not allow you to create the strat maps now.

I don't know what to tell you.
This is a cropped image from the TE's Make Map output. The only GIMP work was to hilite 3 vBases. In another half hour or so, the map of the whole terrain could have been turned into the usual strat map less the airspawns markers. Clearly I don't understand the problem and think AH3 is almost ready to go.

Again, I'd make the map and install my preferred field and strat markers.

We need strat maps that have placement of the bases relative to the modifications of the terrains made for AH3. I am not a terrain designer. So I am told that the tools for creating the strat maps in the Terrain SDK has a bug that hinders the creation of strat maps as in the post above.
The Gray-scale strat map above is from AH2. The same terrain map created for AH3 will not have the same base placement, cities or other strats that no longer exist because of the transition and limitations currently in AH3.
The strat maps need to be the exact representation of what players will fly against in the SEA. So that CICs, COs, and GLs can plan out their missions graphically.

I think what Swariem is asking will this style black n gray strat map that we used to send out for FSO planning in AH2 with the release of AH3 will this feature still be available, or do they all have to be redone with the new map updates for AH3
That style map was great to plan missions and send out the objective so the CIC's had an ideal
just my 1/2 cent

The ONLY advantage to the AH2 TE was the ability to export an elevation bmp that was used to dress up both the CBMs and the strat maps. That is the only difference I can think of. Instead, AH3's TE exports a .raw file, which I'm told is also readable by graphics programs though I haven't tried it myself.
I've already posted above the basic step I use to easily solve the particular problem of adding relief mapping to my CBMs. I prefer that method instead of the AH3 ground texture usage in the default Make Map, and it would apply to a Strat map as well if that's the complaint. Strat maps look better with some light grayscale relief mapping imo, but it certainly isn't required for a useful Strat map.
Now, if you're referring to the base icons and numbers, that again must be created and added by the terrain builder using Photoshop or GIMP. It's always been that way. The TE never did these jobs folks.

I think that I understand now. Special Event Teams will need to make their own strat maps to distribute if there are going to be any.

Strat maps were always hand made. Basically we output the map as Easyscor showed from the TE. Then we take that and the original files we did for creating the terrain into Photoshop or GIMP and create the grey scale strat map that you showed.

To show what you I mean I basically just created this strat map for the AH3 Tunisia map. These usually take me 1 - 2 hours to make and you have to access to the source files for the terrain (non built version) to make something like this.

That is exactly what I was looking for. These are vital to FSO and Scenarios. The CICs use these to plan and communicate missions to their sides. Thanks for putting that map together.
