Did anyone make a terrain like the pizza map we had in AH 1 ? It was awesome!
Oh...my wish is someone would re-create that map. Thank You!

Unless HTC has the original res file, do you have a screen shot of the full clipboard map? I thought that little piza map with all the canyons was it's reincarnation.

Here's a thread HiTech started back in 2002 about that pizza map. Maybe someone has a screenshot?
I might have a screenshot on an old backup dvd. Maybe it was called AKDESERT.

The original build files were lost and so the map was retired during a graphics update when they need to rework the terrains. With out the original files the map can not be rebuilt, it would need to be a complete new build from scratch.

found it

Looks like a belt buckle I once had.

That was a fun map! Canyon fights were great, and the plateaus made for some fun "high ground" fights. GVs around the outside of the mainland, and cv groups up and down the center "rivers" made for some great fights along the long shore lines.
-
Yeah it was a riot. There were some wicked battles on this map.
A modernized version with the same terrain features would be awesome. Perhaps a smaller map grid area with a different field arrangement.
If anyone can provide the old terrain or any other info I would be willing to try my hand at it in a few weeks when I get back from vacation. I have old versions of AH I could run to get started but I can't find the terrain itself.
I think USRanger was going to work on this a couple years ago.

There is a version of it in the game now. Its call SmPizza I believe. The canyons aren't so step or tight or deep, and there isn't any water ways dividing up the map space. It is just a big circle.... like a pizza, with out the GV land around the outside. Oh and its green, not desert :(
-
oh wow I have never seen a picture of this map but I was working on one that looked very similar without the bases in the channels so a CV could in theory bass from one back quarter to another if desired.
gave up with about 60% complete. :(

The fights for those islands were a blast. The map doesn't show elevation, but the center of the map was in the 5k area and dropped slowly until just after you hit the crags/valley/cracks as you move out to the otter edge were it then dropped off quickly to the shore that was pretty much sea level. Some of those cracks were 2-3k deep and only a half mile to mile wide which made for some great turn fights.

That was one of my most favorite maps to play on
-
If I remember that thing had some canyons about 4k deep. Looks like they are the way through the barrier mountains in the center of each slice.

Shave 2 inches off the map around the outside, and you'd have a great map there.

AKDesert was a brilliant map.
The trenches promoted GV combat and they were deep.. Like, 10k deep (I'm pretty sure it was 10k.. it took a long time to fall if you ran an M3 off the side ) . You could fly in and attack the GV bases, but you couldn't just climb out of the canyon when you wanted.. Got trapped many times in there.
Some of the airfields were 10k.. launching bombers with 50% gas was a challenge at times.
You had GV battles around the perimeter.
It was like a couple different maps in one.
And with the field assignments at the start, there was a scramble to connect the owned regions.. Was intense!
When it first came out, there were 'land mine' rocks that blew up your GV if you hit one.. Made for some serious maneuvering if you were flying down a hill..
The ONLY problem I had with that map was it was all desert. Got old after awhile.. I prefer green. Would have been nice if they had both types, but I think there might have been a limit to the terrain builder with the types of tiles it could handle.. Vague memories of that, but not positive.

That can be duplicated in a 10x10, just fewer islands and cap the central mountains to 12-15k. As for the ditches, they can be 10k deep if that floats your goat. The default Euro tile set has two kinds of sand and grassland with bushes. Rock tile sets will add their own sparse spaced trees depending on the slope angle. Do you remember if the land gently ran down to the shores or suddenly shouldered over and down from say 1-2k?
This thing is simple, plop down ground in a big dot set to 2k. Cut the water canals and cut out the canyon trenches. Push up the central highlands to 17k, there is a bulldozer tool in the TE. You can hand sculpt the drop to the shoreline or use a 90day preview of L3DT. After that, plop down your field objects and spawns, and avoid beating your cats after testing every single spawn on the map...... :bhead
Easyscor is the person to talk to about strat and the finer points of bringing this all together.

Was hoping this thread was about the 1999 pizza terrain :old:

I remade the actual physical terrain, but never laid any fields. We'll see for AH3. I've got so many terrains to convert it hurts my head.

I'm going to ask on my squad's BB. It was made by an Arabian Knight years ago, that's why it's called AKDesert, but i can't remember who it was.

I seem to remember that most were always
b*tching about that map :airplane:

There's always complaining no matter what. Cant make everyone happy.

Yeah it was hilarious, a lot of people were saying that the particular color palate of that terrain was actually causing them physical pain.
-
I asked around, but no luck. The map was created by AKCurly and he has not been around the squad since 2008.

Wow thanks for checking AKQwik. :salute
An updated version of this map would be awesome for open melee rotation.
Looks like USRanger must've found a copy of the map used in the rotation.
USRanger if I can help out let me know. Got some free time to try my hand at it.
