When I fly near an airfield, there always seems to be puffy ack firing at me. Are there people manning the guns or are they automated, like CV ack?
-
seems to be automatic puffy.
-
I fly all the way to the circling dweebs and as i arrive i am greeted by puffy ack, typical.

Seems large fields have auto puffy.

That's odd. I checked out several large fields on sfma and craterma, and none had any kind of puffy guns in the object list, nor was I under AA fire when I did fly over them.
Which field exactly did you guys suffer from puffy attacks?
-
I'll have to look. Last night I was chasing some bombers returning to a large field no where near a strat (at least that I saw) and auto puffy was popping all over.
Memory says 63 or 69. Somewhere in there.
-
I picked up a proxy off a combatant due to this auto puffy yesterday. We were some way off the field and he was getting the better of the engagement at that point..............
Didn't seem right some how.......... the range seems too long IMO
It was a large field

A63 is a large field indeed, and this is the first one now I have ever encountered puffy ack. Interestingly there's no such gun in the object list of that field either. :headscratch:

Ok, A63 is one of the large fields featuring also a large town (217 buildings). Only over those I get puffy. But still, no gun in the objects list for those bases that possibly could shoot auto puffy :headscratch:
UPDATE: I hovered over such a base in the puffy and disabled the standard auto acks (GNG) one by one. Some of them apparently had the ability to generate puffy as well, because when I took them out, puffy dwindled down and then stopped.
At this point, it almost sounds like a bug to me. :old:

Glad I wasn't going crazy.. :aok

LOL
I was flying toward a large enemy field at about 12K. Puffy ack started. All of a sudden I was instantly in the tower. Nobody got a kill. Just said, "You have been killed".
Hard lesson learned! Puffy ack over large airfield towns... LOL
A good addition to the game. Defenders can take off and attempt to defend instead of getting vulched from the high alt pickers. It is good to get up and mix it up in that 3K to the deck style fights. At least the ones hovering those fights for a pick now have to contend with puffy. Sort of evens the odds IMHO.

There are 4 88 mm at the huge airfields.

Auto 88? What are they called? The object list shows only (light) GNG, heavy auto ack like the strats have used to be GNH. I'd find having different types of objects under the same name quite confusing.
Furthermore, is "huge airfield" now a different category than "large airfield?", mainly determined by the doubled town size? If so I would wish to make that showing on map as well.

Only those large bases with also a large town. Not all large fields have that ;)

The GNH vs GNG is simply how hard they are to destroy. GNG = Soft GNH = Hard and GNA = armored. We made them easier to kill.
I had already added a new icon type this morning for huge field types.

For the record, it seems that GNGs 19 1A 1B and 1C on huge airfields (those with large 217 building towns) are the ones responsible for puffy ack.
