Title: Forum weirdness
Post by: nrshida on September 09, 2016, 09:33:13 AM
Just lately, when I open a thread which contains YouTube videos (I think), I get tiny text files downloading instead and blank spaces in people's posts. The files are titled something like 'lYf-JwzvYJA' and my Mac thinks they're text files. They contain gibberish like this:-

CWS◊%x⁄çZ˘wYvÆ'ïÙ$yìd0`≥⁄;Ö¨≈+¥{⁄Äç̶m⁄Üfô6•íT%î™DUIFÙtÜa¶3˚ñ•'À$ÒdôL“IfíôÏÀ$ì}∑!”}ÚSŒôsíìø!øêÔUïº@√i”’€ÓªÔ.flΩsó„ƒqÌfl‰∏V¬ùèÖ9é;˝_ˇã‹9æfià¯ÒDÛ˚Í‹û?ˇ)±d%MFÕÆÂe—ZW™¶q∑!ÆÆ+óÿÓ˚˚¶˙8é`ÉbJ9ÕEπ$€˛·¯∫°[M≤ Iπ.Î∂òe$2köÜÈ|
Æ⁄¶™óBs5Ω`´ÜNœÜ&Kzp9K.ÿaw≥.€ë++W‰;5Ÿ≤=éV√≤ÂJ€EC* Ê9C∑ªvã;U≥UÕ

›Sfi%âY   Ï¨£MÆ

Which looks like my typing when I'm really tired and my dyslexia comes to the fore. It wasn't always this way. Don't think I've changed anything on my computer which could explain this.

Any ideas?

This has something to do with embedding utub videos. I believe that file contains instructions for the embedded video player (or whatever it is) on how to find and play the utub video, but the player isn't there so the browser just downloads it as a file.

However, I have no idea what I'm talking about. Really annoying either way.

I have heard this can happen on Mac if the Cuda driver release is buggy, or if the drivers are not properly installed.

That is a topic.  How about the link to the specific post?

The first one is pointing to a flash version of a youtube film. Doesn't show for me either (I don't have flash installed). If I view that post without being logged in my browser (firefox) is offering me to download this cryptic, 'unknown' filetype.

The second one is a html5 version of a youtube film. Those play just fine with about all modern browsers with no additional install like flash.

Okay. I think my Flash is out of date.

Can just click 'quote' to get the links I found.

Thanks.
