108 but trying 105 out
-
106 - just like AH2
-
was 106 and bumped it up to 110
-
105 is terrible. going back to 108 lol
-
80 for quite a while, then to 96, back to 90, now at 88. I like seeing the details of skins on other planes in the arena, I rarely could do that in AH 2 at 106.
-
Currently trying 95 with my TrackIR.
-

Started out at 106, then 100, then 95, then 90, then 85 and now at 80 and liking it.
Just worked thru it is all.

Ran at 80 for a few days and felt like I was missing things. Back to 106 like AH2.
-
152 on triple monitors.

Whatever default is.

601 im disk lexa ick

I use 94. I use the lowest I can go and still have good view coverage in like the back-up view.
-
115 but playing around still but like the 115 so far

106 (But haven't tried anything else.)
-
Default 80 degrees (for purposes of beta testing rather than personal preference). However, I don't like the loss of SA when views don't overlap so I'll probably go back to 106, or at least 95. (Note I checked frame rate under varying locations at 80 and 106 and increasing the FOV did not reduce frame rate, it actually increased it slightly).
-
yep I spent all day trying different FOV.
Default was great for TIR functionality, worked as it should in all situations. Tightness of the view made SA very very difficult for me.
110 was ok but gunnery was very hit and miss (no pun intended)
106 to 108 is my preferred. Some anomalies with TIR and gunnery average but overall a good balance.
-
Using 110 and I like it.
-
TRackr5 at 106 for a long time, been trying 100 last 2 weeks.
-
During most of the BETA I (Tir 3 user) stuck with the default 80°, but it messed with my gunnery and so I went back to the traditional 106°
-
I like to have the ammo counters at the very bottom of the screen. During Beta I used 106, but now I have it set for 103 like I did for AH2.
-
mine is at 106 and people are still getting shot down fine.
My targets always appear to fly straight through my gunsight though always been lucky like that. :D
-
Messed around in the 94-103 range, then finally went back to 106. Not going to change again. :aok

106
-
109 / 110.
-
Default. It says 74 in the greyed out box.
-
One oh six
-
nine seven
-
145 for a triple scren setup, which for the most part matches that of other flight sims I play.
-
106 because I'm widescreen
-
106, but interested in other folks perspective on what works best with a single monitor as I haven't evaluated different options. ....most seem to be using 106, maybe because it's what we're used to from AH2.
-
115 single screen
145 triple
Works just fine for me, because I have no hope of actually getting an opponent to a position close to my mil rings. Oh well. I'm just here for the wine tasting.

108. Played AH2 at 115. Changed the FOV a few times anywhere between 90 and 115 and think I have it right for me (subject to change)

Does the FOV setting affect frame rate?

Does the FOV setting affect frame rate?
Im sure it can. The more things in your view the more that your card has to process.
-
Does the FOV setting affect frame rate?
hmm not sure. I certainly have not noticed any change in FR but I run 130 to 144 most times. Except TT when lots of GVs are there and then it drops to 120
-
119 29" widescreen monitor.

Does the FOV setting affect frame rate?
AH3
Yes. I have an Acer i3 Notepad (no vid card) I can play on, sort of. At the default of 80, the frame rate's almost playable but I can't see squat. At 106, forget about it. I compromise at 96. I can view the terrain and kill the drones but I'd never try online with that device.
-
Does the FOV setting affect frame rate?
On my computer increasing the FOV did not reduce the frame rate... it actually increased it slightly. Best to just try it.
-
Now, 100.
Still trying to find a happy medium where I can clearly read the fuzzy gauges and keep it looking like the beloved ah2...

In another thread I had suggested the default fov should be set higher to give newbies a better SA but some said the low FOV default setting would not put newbies at a disadvantage with SA.
I would suggest that HTC make the fov fixed based on your setup. A lot of whining for sure would follow.

I'm pretty sure that's what "Auto FOV" already does; sets the FOV based on chosen display resolution.

After a lot of testing I am set at FOV 93. Its middle ground for my playing style, descent SA and better than normal detail when hunting GVs. Gunnery has improved with the FOV, for me. The better gunnery could also be because of all the flying in Beta, when tracers were hard to see. To hit something you actually had to learn how to use the gun sights! Big help there!
-
103. Same as I was using in AH2. SA is all. If I want to see closer, I zoom.

There's more to FOV than just resolution, especially if you run a triple screen setup. For a better idea how complex the issue can get take a look at some of these links:
http://www.projectimmersion.com/fov/ (http://www.projectimmersion.com/fov/)
http://www.edracing.com/edr/FOV.php (http://www.edracing.com/edr/FOV.php)

The sim racing community leads the pack when it comes to this sort of stuff.
There are many more calculators out there to choose from. I use an older one that is Excel based and appears to give me the best results for my setup. It even calculates the optimal angle for my side monitors.
All that said, at the end of the day set it to what you like and works for you. :aok
At least AHIII makes it easy to set FoV. Some flight sims either don't allow you to adjust the FoV (BoS) or make it ridiculously hard to do so (DCS).

Mein gott! Just looked that beast up. I'll bet games look awesome on that beast. It costs more than my three 27" monitors!
