Title: Hangar font color.
Post by: LilMak on September 22, 2016, 11:08:29 AM
Can we get a different color for the text in the hangar? White letters on white concrete isn't exactly easy to read.

Kingpin was thinking red would be nice.

Oh yes please!
Most of the time I have to go to graphic options, enable shadows and disable them again, just to be able to read my loadout endurance info.  :bhead

I put that exact request on chat while Hitech was in the game yesterday.

Then he shot my bomber hunting 410 down in his P38, using cheat codes I bet.  :)

Hey he's Santa any other time and has to visit 262,144 square miles of arena to HoHoHo everyone in 30 minutes. I'll bet he has access to a bit more in game than we do as the Administrator El Grandee. Better him than me...... :lol

Was going to say something about the color text  in the hanger myself. Good idea to make it a color you can see all the time. +1

Some of us can't see red text. I noticed the hanger text change to red in the release and couldn't read the text any more.

Maybe white outlined in black or the inverse would be best for multiple light conditions.

What's a good color for you?

I wonder if it would just be easier to make the floor color text a changeable option like it is for icons.

Probably the best option. +1  for the color blind (both natural and moonshine induced).

What's a good color for you?

Red and green are the most common forms of color blindness.

Best solution would be to make it a player controlled option as others have already suggested

I don't know what you guys are talking about? My hangar floor is a medium gray with yellow text!

Is that with shadows off?

okay, I see what is going on now. Thank you BowHTR.

Every monitor that you have should have the proper driver loaded. Then you can go into Windows color profiler and load the proper color profile for your monitor, since every drivers includes the color profile. It may still be difficult for people that are color challenged, but that will give you better contrast between hangar floor and lettering.

Yes, with shadows off the hangar floor brightens a bit, but the letters are still readable.

That would work great if the sun didn't wash it out.

What if your monitor is a tv?

In that case I would suggest you use your video cards control panel to switch to YCC-4:2:2 format. You might still be able to load a color profile if one has been provided with your television drivers, but if it is loaded as a generic then the YCC approach is probably as good as it gets.

What about changing the color of the floor?  Make it a darker gray?

The sun through the skylights can wash it out. Tinting the skylights might help.

Change the hanger so the sun does not shine in at all. Everything else stays the same as far as the sun goes. For convenience, just keep the hanger sun proofed.

Path of least resistance, assuming the correction is simple to implement. Great effect to showcase the overall graphics engine, not necessarily required in that instance.  Man this game is looking amazing!

Isn't the path of least resistance to just change the color of the font to black?

Not if the light still washes it out... Root Problem vs Perceived problem IMO.

The contrast between off-white and white is the problem IMO. Even with the color washed out, the text would still be visible if it were darker.

I always thought the fonts on the hanger floor were white to.

I just loaded my monitor's color profile. They are a light yellow gold. But the bad news is if you turn off post lighting, 12:00 completely washes out the floor. Turn back on post lighting, shadows and reflections, the font color stands out nice and gold. I played with turning off things with post lighting enabled and when it got to shadows and reflections, the fonts started fading out. A bit like the icon does in flight at a distance when parts of it get transparent. I'm not sure changing the color of the font will fix this one. It's visibility is tied directly to the lighting effects engine.

Well that explains a lot. I run the post lighting off because I can't read the panel. Also I don't see any fade to the icons and it bugs the crap out of me that it obscures the planes.

There always was a learning curve with this game. I wasn't sure on the changing font vs the lighting in the area, but my guess was it was tied to lighting effects more than the text color.

thx for testing bustr!
