Anyone else ever order ammo online? If so, who from and how did it go?
I've only just started doing it but so far it seems to definitely be the best way for me to buy because my choices now seem nearly infinite instead of just whatever Wal-Mart has on the shelf.
I'm not sure if I should be concerned that my FedEx person always just leaves it on my porch instead of getting a signature. I would expect them to require someone to sign but maybe this isn't legally necessary.

Dozens of times. It's almost always been left at my front door. I've ordered from Doubletap, The CMP Store, Cabelas, Georgia Arms, and others.
My Garand was even left at my front door -- that was a bit shocking. I figured THAT would require a signature. (Sender determines it).
If you order ammo, once you get the tracking info, say FedEx or UPS, you can go online and have them hold it for you to pick it up.

Wonder if they'd leave a Ma Deuce at the front door :)
Of course that may be as far as they'd make if after the
hernia lifting it :neener:
-
It wouldnt get to the door, they would just shove it out of the back of the truck and leave it in the road
-
It would disappear in transit. :)
-
Well, since it has to be handled by professionals you would be going to pick it up yourself.
I have ordered ammo through Brownell's even when ammo was impossible to find. Have plenty now.

Freedom Ammo, its the only ammo i shoot in normal calibers and i shoot a lot. Very clean and a solid reliability reputation.
Just order 1500 of 38 special today. Free shipping

I ended up ordering 480 rounds of 7.62 NATO and 50 3" 15 pellet 00 Buck 12 gauge. I'm happy

I have used Freedom Arms and LAX. Both have been very easy to deal with and prompt. First time I did this was when I saw the handwriting on the wall a few years back regarding 22lr. I ordered a case ( 5000+) and paid only $185. I think those days are no more :cry
I have used reman and factory fresh, never had a single issue or bad round.

I look at this place to find best prices:
http://ammoseek.com/
I've ordered from the following -- all worked out fine, and I'd order from them again no problem:
cheaperthandirt.com
munireusa.com
woodburyoutfitters.com
ammunitionsupplycompany.com

Nobody should ever buy ammo from cheaperthandirt.com. Remember the ammo price gouging in 2013?

They can set them to whatever they want. I just buy from the place with the cheapest prices for what I want.

Join the Cabela's Club. I get E-mails on the stuff that I shoot when it goes on sale.
I specify UPS for shipping as the guy will lift into the house for my wife. I am not sure every UPS guy is like that but ours is cool.
I like Cabela's because they give you ammo cans for free and shipping is free and if you get it on sale it is cheap also.
If you go around to gun stores locally you may find re-loaders for plinking stuff.

midwayusa and Natchezshootingsupplies both good ones Ive dealt with.

Are you a licensed FFl dealer?

Nope.
The CMP delivers to your front door, in certain states, as long as it's legal.

That is cool! Thanks.

Np at all. :)
Heck, I just noticed your location. You could make a nice day trip and go to their store to pick out a rifle. :)

Maybe another one or a surplus 1911. My understanding is they will be available through CMP now

Ordered from them before. Also, Sportsmansguide.com has decent prices and availability.

I've bought lots of XM109 5.56mm and 7.62x39 and 7.62x54 ammo on line. 9mm and .357 as well.
I usually can find cheap .22 LR at the local Walmart stores. Just bought 2,000 rounds of Winchester 1,300 fps 40 grain at 8 cents per round there, along with 100 rounds of 12 gauge #4 buckshot.
Buying online is often a good alternative as long as the shipping charges don't offset the savings. About a month ago at Walmart, I picked up six 100 round boxes of brass case, re-loadable boxer primed 62 grain 5.56mm for 27 cents per round. That's as cheap as the Russian Tula steel case .223 found on online bulk seller sites and I didn't have to pay shipping. So, don't forget the Walmart....

Another Freedom Munitions plug here. I used them exclusively (except with good deals came around) before I started reloading.
Ammoseek.com is a good source to find good deals. Just be sure to add shipping in to the calculation of 'per round' to find the best deal.

Still waiting for these 12 gauge shells to become available. For some reason there was a ton of buzz about them around this time last year but they still haven't gone on sale yet.

That'll leave a mark.

I read about those a few months ago. Strictly a well designed home-defense round. Won't over penetrate through walls, the target absorbs all the energy. I think they were estimated at over $5 per round.
-
Interesting round, but is it more effective than 00 Buckshot?
I can see where it may be useful where over-penetration is a big concern, but I'm quite certain that it would easily penetrate two sheets of drywall.
Penetration issues depend on where you live. Apartments can be problematic, obviously. Houses can be laid out where there is risk to people in other rooms.
My house is a center hall design. Our bedroom opens to the end of the center hall. This gives me an open field of fire and creates a genuine hall of death for intruders. The alarm system will alert us to entry. This allows us to remain in place and prevent anyone getting to the bedrooms. Our security system is a bit over the top for some folks. Three wide angle video cameras can be monitored to observe much of the remainder of the house from the master bedroom. I installed these just before Christmas last year after an electrician did the wall wiring. There's also two outside cameras on the system. Should anyone enter the house. I can observe where intruders are and determine whether or not to engage or just sit tight and wait. This inexpensive system provides options that otherwise would be a gamble.

Idk if it's more effective than 00 Buckshot, but it looks really cool.
Anyone ever used flechette rounds? I've been thinking about getting some to try out.

I never tried those, but I have tested "bean bag" rounds in the shotgun below. One punched a sizable hole in a piece of drywall, but the second and third round would not penetrate 1/4" plywood, even fired into the same spot. They would knock the fight out of someone, like getting kicked by a horse. Still dangerous and potentially lethal, especially if struck in the head or face.
