Are you working on a way to make the water more depth perception prone? Hopefully this won't be too hard to work on. It's incredibly difficult over the water. I can't be the only one. I'm just curious if this is an issue for anyone else or if this is how it's gonna be a for a while?

Flew into the water twice last night.....first time I've ever done that. It was like flying around inside an inkwell. Just a few visual cues of the surface would be nice.
-
This is why I moved the IAS\Speed HUD block down just under my gunsight.
-
Only time I have trouble is when its dark. a quick peek at the IAS/Speed HUD keeps me "above water" :D
-
I did it last night. Again. It's comical, and frustrating. :)
-
You know you can change the size of the HUD font when you change the icon font size and it has an altimeter readout on it? That keeps me from hitting the water.

+1
Terrible depth perception as modeled.

Yes. Because WWII airplanes had a HUD. Derp.
"Pilots in WWII wore headphones for some reason."
Which is it?

The thought of a hud in AH is distasteful at best.

I believe you mean displeasing.

Agreed. With unrealistic-for-ww2 pitch ladder and HUD, we may as well also have the invisible plane view they have in war thunder with so much hud flight data you don't need gauges.
I know, I know, we can shut those off.
I also have the same problem visually estimating altitude over water w/o gauges.

Because in real life, its easier to glance at the gauges than it is in game. Derp.

In real life you can see the surface of the water easier unless it's a poor viz day or at night. There are those days real life when you're scud running under a low, gray stratus layer over almost glassy gray water and a defined horizon is a distant memory....like flying inside a cup of milk. <shudder -- stupid, stupid decision that day :)>
I used to turn off detailed water for this very problem...no definition.

HiTech said that he will be adding animated foam/wave tops. But did not mention when.

I think I have it right. :)
dis·taste·ful
causing dislike or disgust; offensive; unpleasant.

This is good to hear.
I have screen shots that sum up the user experience.

HUD is good for the less seasoned...it really doesn't matter if it's on or off when fighting someone because by the point you can win 1v1s, flying should be based off the feeling of your aircraft (sounds/buffet/ect).
I don't have much problem with water, I find the ground looks closer so I often fly higher then normally would in AH2. That being said some wave breaks and such would be a cool graphic.

water is throwing me off heavily.

its less annoying than ah2's detailled water bit still annoying...at least in ah2 I could disable it
