Well, have the rift arriving today. Someone please give me some info on best way to set up for the game?
-
you might rather give it a shot and then speak up if you have any issues. It's pretty straight forward.
I can tell you don't look up and back and then turn really hard or you're not going to feel very good. Most of that will pass fairly quickly.
Also, you might go ahead and map a hatswitch for the rear view. It'll help to make you not as ill feeling and keep some SA.
-
In the Oculus program in settings/general check allow unknown sources. Map a button to tracker center.
Use the lens spacing feature often until you get used to it to make sure the headset is aligned for the best picture. You don't have to reset the spacing, just check the headset position.
Leave space around your nose for ventilation and peeking at the keyboard.

How much did it cost Coppr?
-
In the mid $600's US, Zack, after tax. I had Amazon Prime for free shipping.
-
Forgot to mention, the headset forces power savings on the usb hub it's plugged into. You may need your controllers and the rift sensor plugged into a different usb hub.

Ok, it's here, it's hooked up and it's o my god freaking awesome. Some questions, help PLEASE.
1. Can't see text buffer, it's too small, how to enlarge it? I can move it, but can't enlarge.
2. MOST IMPORTANT; My mic is on a logitech usb headset. can I use it? How?
There's gonna be some nausea at first, but it seems I'll get used to this, and it's better than I ever expected.
Now for the virtual porn, hehehehehe

Very carefully, as sometimes it will jump up and get stuck to the ceiling. I understand grabbing it from the bottom helps.
when you have your dot on the edge of the message box you should see it change to updown arrow, you can then resize...(like i said try from the bottom) and same with sideways. If you really screw it up it can be reset so don't get worried. We've all gone thorugh it. :aok

There is a MIC built into the Rift. You will be able to talk and listen through it.
-
The mic built into the Rift headset works well. If you want to use different headphones and mic just remove the rift earphones with the special tool and select the unit you want to use in the AH sound preferences.
To use the Rift mic you may need to select it in windows sound recording properties.
You may want to pick up some candied ginger at the grocery store. The Dr1 is a good nausea test.

How many times have you puked so far? :old:
-
Not at all. You have to physically adjust for it, probably the same way if you were really in the plane. It is EFFING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! How does one adjust position in the cockpit? I can't see the sight pipper.
-
Map a button to tracker center. It's in the view list in AH controller mapping.

How much?
Is it made out of gold!

Coppr, the radio/comms window issues in VR are known to HT, he's already posted in another thread I made about this in tech support that he's working on it. For now, you can take the Rift off of your head and use the mouse/desktop to drag the vox/comms/radio boxes around and resize them, if you go look in that forum you'll see the thread and the fixes HT and others have suggested until he gets to it.
Glad you like your Rift, pretty much the reaction we have come to expect, what you posted. It's pretty amazing, especially considering it's very early days for VR in this game, yet such an incredible experience already.
-
Zack, the experience is worth every freaking penny, I give you my word. There is no describing it. I just got through fighting a 190D in my Ki84...he could not lose me. It was unreal. It has made the game more fun than ever before. This is the experience I have always wanted, I feel almost as if I'm really in the plane.
I have to get the sensor at the perfect level, that is what's effecting my pipper. Once it's right, my aim will improve. I owned the 190, but couldn't hit it.
HiTech, thank you for adding this to the game.
-
You don't have to physically center the sensor as long as it sees the headset you're good. To get the sensor centered use the Oculus program and center it on the same screen where you set the lens spacing. You have to open it with the little controller gizmo after AH is running, push the bottom button.
The easy way to center yourself in the cockpit is with the AH command "tracker center" but both ways work.
-
you mean in the text buffer, FLS? like .tracker center ?
-
:)
I will wait until it's a bit cheaper :)
-
I don't blame you, zack, but I'm telling you, this is literally the best thing since sliced bread.
-

You have to assign it to a button. It's the same one that centers TrackIR. Works for both.
-
but I can't read the selection box in VR, it's to small and fuzzy...am I being obtuse?
-
Did you set your lens spacing and check the position of the headset in the oculus software? It should be easy to read text.
The clipboard can be moved closer or farther away by clicking -/+ at the top.
You can take the headset off to map the button or start AH3 without VR to map it.
Also if you're near-sighted you need to wear glasses with the Rift. Even though the screen is close the fresnel lens changes the focus distance.

Did you set your lens spacing and check the position of the headset in the oculus software? It should be easy to read text. Yes I did.
The clipboard can be moved closer or farther away by clicking -/+ at the top. I know you mean well, so I'll only get mildly annoyed :x
Yes I know that!!! Hehehehe
You can take the headset off to map the button or start AH3 without VR to map it. Did that, yet it doesn't seem to do anything in game now.
Also if you're near-sighted you need to wear glasses with the Rift. Even though the screen is close the fresnel lens changes the focus distance. I wear my glasses under the rift. The problem is the mapping box when you double click a button to actually map it, is in a bad place, is small, and doesn't seem to respond to anything. It won't close, and doesn't map the feature.
-
so you can actually look over your shoulder now?
look down see feet, lean over and look down and left?
what happens when you turn 180 head movement?
how natural is the view change with head movement?
I'm getting ready for same purchase.
-
there are no feet...and p.s. that would be creepy if there were just some feet...(there is also no shoulder)
The pilot is not rendered.
But other than that, it's JUST like being in the plane.
You are gonna love it!
My first up I took up my fav plane the Dr1 and I flew over the beach and I leaned over to the right and looked down over the side. Pretty freaking cool.
-
MadE, you CAN look anywhere you like with the Rift on, however that requires a certain amount of gymnastic ability, it's literally like you see fighter pilots doing on videos twisting brutally around in their seats. However, HTC has implemented the joystick/keypad hat view system along with VR a bit already - you can hit "look back" for example and the VR view will look right behind you, and then you can move your head around with the VR view pointed "back" like it was just looking at a normal screen or with TrackIR when you used the hat with it on. Makes it MUCH easier to quickly and easily look behind and above you, two things that are very important when in a fight. Obviously you can look down/sides/etc too. It's the best of both worlds really.
-
MADe, GO FOR IT!!! Pull the trigger, man! All the levers, cranks, etc. look like you could just reach out and use them. Y look over your shoulder, it's EXACTLY like real life, looking up, is a trip. Fly a 110 and look out over at the engines, or sort of lift up in your seat and look over and down.
It makes flying more real and EASIER to follow an opponent. This has excited me the way my very first combat flight sim did, and then when you could actually fight an opponent real time did. It's a game changer!!!!

There is a game called Elite Dangerous that is reported to have one of the best implementations of VR. In that game the pilot's body is depicted. Many VR users state that looking down at the legs and hands tricks your brain into identifying them as yours, since they move as yours does. Every once in a while the right hand comes off the joystick and flexes. When it does this it really gives the VR user a moment of confusion, almost like having a quick limb spasm. So many new experiences with this tech! ;)

What do you have to do in AH to get SBS displays running? I don't have Rift or Vive, but I do have Gear VR. I've been successful running Alien: Isolation in the past on it (with some issues, but playable) and wanted to see if I could get AH3 running with it. At least, play around with it.
However, AH can't run windowed, which precludes intugame VR as far as I can tell. I'm looking at other options to stream a feed to the goggles, but it seems Oculus has become a little annoying with recent updates and any time you insert the phone into the headset plug it will override anything you're running to launch the Gear VR home. You can bypass that by springing out the plug to mount the phone unplugged, but that would require that I get the SBS feed going on its own, like with google cardboard.
Is that even possible with AH?
