Title: Tip for VR Nausea
Post by: Vulcan on October 02, 2016, 09:31:29 PM
I've heard a lot of people talking about the effects of VR nausea/motion sickness.

One tip I would give you all is use a fan to blow air across your face/head. Initially I did this as sometimes in winter my Rift would fog up. However I suspect the rift planted on your face for hours at a time my contribute to a temperature rise around your face/head.

So a small (30cm) fan blowing at low speed may help.

Yes, a fan is a great idea. Because the heat really does help to make you feel bad.  :aok

If you're flying open cockpit use a big fan.   :D

Ginger does wonders for preventing or treating nausea.  We keep the candied ginger on the boat...even worked when the dog got seasick.

You can also use a garlic press on ginger root.

That's not a bad idea in terms of dealing with lenses fogging up.  I've only gotten nausea once from VR, I'd thought it was just an old wives tale tbh, but got a dose of it in AH3 dogfighting, and couldn't believe it.  I do get lens fogging in both the Rift and Vive, and a small fan pointed near the noodle probably would work well for clearing the air especially with the Rift and the small gap under the nose.

I'm getting some mild nausea, more in the 110 than the single engines, oddly. I've been doing some pretty strong maneuvers, it's just so freaking awesome to see. Flying the 110 and looking out at the engines, looking up and back, you can see why it was really hard to see behind you, and it's all so damned distracting from the game....I'm in love again.

Coppr, have you tried incorporating the hat/keypad views with VR yet?  It makes looking behind you/above/fighting/etc SO much easier, and HTC is the first to really blend the two methods, as in DCS it's all head still, as in other sims.

I set up a small fan at about a 45 degree angle pointing towards my head with the Rift on today flying around offline - huge difference in keeping fog off my lenses, I can even wear glasses instead of contacts now, and they'll stay clear as well.  I just have it on low speed, but it works great, 10$ amazon cheapo fan clamped to my bookshelf.

Gman, I'm hopin that with time the nausea will go away, but in the mean time I'm hunting some candied ginger to munch. I haven't had a fogging problem at all, even with my glasses on.

Had my worst bout with the nausea so far, didn't feel like I was gonna be sick, but it has lasted significantly longer than I thought it would, as in 4 hours after I took of the gear. Head hurts, stomach uncomfortable. Grrrrrrr.
