Hello all. I am new. Please forgive me if this has been discussed to death, I could not find any relevant threads. 1) CH fighterstick, is it better to use the Aces High Mapping as opposed to learning and using the CH Control Manager software? 2) If I also use the CH Pro Throttle, can they be combined and used in Aces High using the Aces High Mapping program, or do you need CH Control Manager to use them combined? 3) If I use the CH Control Manager, do I have to delete all the values in the Aces High Mapping program so it doesn't clash with Control Manager? Thank you. I am a little confused about these two things.

Hello all. I am new. Please forgive me if this has been discussed to death, I could not find any relevant threads. 1) CH fighterstick, is it better to use the Aces High Mapping as opposed to learning and using the CH Control Manager software?
It's really a personal preference. Some players don't use Control Manager and just map their CH sticks through the AH keymapper. Personally, I recommend using Control Manager as you can program far more advanced functions through Control Manager than the AH keymapper but it all just boils down to what is easier/more convenient for you.
2) If I also use the CH Pro Throttle, can they be combined and used in Aces High using the Aces High Mapping program, or do you need CH Control Manager to use them combined?
If you're using a Pro Throttle as well, you can map both the throttle and joystick using AH's keymapper instead of Control Manager.
3) If I use the CH Control Manager, do I have to delete all the values in the Aces High Mapping program so it doesn't clash with Control Manager? Thank you. I am a little confused about these two things.
I would use the same values in Control Manager so you won't have to redo the AH keymapping.

Thank you. Very Helpful.

I have a three video series on how I use the AH control mappings for aircraft and vehicles, which have different requirements.
1, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sl1jBTx1HJA) then 2, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCX8IdA8AMc) and 3. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkcaVmToMOU)

I've spent a couple of hours watching your videos. I've learned a lot, and still have a lot more to learn. Thanks for letting me know about them. I subscribed to you on YouTube and will spend some more time looking at more videos. Thank you.

Glad to have you onboard!
EDIT: For anyone interested I am working on a video now that will explain how to modify AH2 sounds so they work with AH3. You will need an audio editor, or DAW, that can do multitrack editing (editor would be a lot cheaper). Also, if you want to modify the engine sounds so that you have the entire range of possible rpms, the sound editor must be capable of pitch shifting by semitones. I'll explain more in the video.

Funny thing, I spent a couple of hours last night programming all the modes and buttons on the fighterstick, saved it all, (clicked OK many times), played with it for 3 hours last night. This morning, its all gone, like I never programmed anything.
-
Did you unplug your controllers and plug them back in to different ports? If so, winblows will consider them to be different controllers than the ones you programmed.
-
Thats very possible. I have 2 USB's on the front of the computer. I did unplug it. I will have to check that out. Thanks for the tip.

With CH especially it is important to use a powered hub, as well as leave it all plugged into the motherboard.
-
Hi Challenge...a question for you about the powered usb hub with CH fighterstick and pro throttle. Why is it important? I use both and they are plugged into the usb ports on back of my homebuilt pc. An i7 3.7 Ghz, 16 G ram and nvidea GTX 1070. I use the DX9 ver. for AH III exclusively now ( 11 kept crashing).
I am wondering if the powered hub may help with the "petit micro freezes" I am experiencing in game.
I have used your mapping videos. They are very helpful. Thanks for your work!
Snatch...I use the AH mapping for my stick and it works great. Never tried the CH software. Let me know how it works for you. I may try it if you and others think it is a better option.

USB ports on the computer are one of many things the powersupply must supply power for. Using a powered USB hub .... using a decent one.... will provide steady, solid power all the time to the things plugged into the hub. It is no longer at the mercy of a possibly over loaded power supplies.
-
Actually, even a marginal power supply will provide the 500mA needed for USB ports, but the problem is that power will be distributed across all of the ports. The requirements of CH controllers, or any high powered USB device, can be cheated of available power if there are even a small number of devices plugged in. It is not that they will not work, but it is because when the power drops below a certain level the USB port will drop devices from identified to unknown, and then when they are recognized again the mappings may easily be confused (requiring you to remap the device in AH).
Overvoltage protection on a powered device is also much better than a strictly MB port setup. Although each generation of Windows has usually brought about better power management, I have still seen USB devices ruined by overvoltage (cost me a CH Throttle Quadrant just recently).

The reason why it was recommended in the past to use a powered USB hub with CH products was that some motherboards didn't output the proper voltage to the onboard USB ports or had an inadequate power supply that couldn't supply enough power to the onboard USB ports. As long as you have sufficient power going to the onboard USB ports you do not need a powered USB hub.
I had to use a powered USB hub with my CH gear but once I got a new power supply for my PC, I was able to ditch the powered USB hub and connect my CH gear directly to the onboard USB ports on the PC without any issues.

I use a powered hub with my CH gear only because it keeps all the cables in one place
Track IR reciever
Track IR clip thing on headphones
Throttle
Joystick
Headphones
Phone charger
It can't do any harm using powered hub

What do you plug the pie oven into?

I myself have been using ch hotas for 20+ years and have never used an USB powered hub....but I also have designed/built my own machines for nearly the same amount of time....

Unpowered USB hubs (why they call them that is beyond me) get the power to run from the USB bus.
If the cable to it is long or if the voltage levels drop, then the hub will lose its USB port connections, long enough that Windows will drop the device.
An externally powered USB hub will always be more reliable.
What works on one motherboard may not be adequate advice for another. The USB hub eliminates any confusion.

I use a USB hub to power my micro Iced Tea maker. :old:

Why do you ruin the forum Pipz?
Iced tea is a abomination it is nearly as bad as Sushi?

Has anyone had any build quality issues with ch fightersticks? I have had three and the last two have caused me trouble.
I am about to return one that I received yesterday. The stick would achieve 100 % stick deflection in-game between 1/2 and 2/3 stick pull in real life (it is not a trim wheel issue). I have tried calibrating in windows, using CH manager and in-game.
My previous stick did not have a level base when it arrived- one of the four small pads on the base was several mm lower than the others making the entire stick rock when using it. I fixed that problem myself but I was a pretty annoyed considering how much i forked out for it.
These things should have been picked up in the most basic quality control checks. Have I just been unlucky with my last 2 sticks?
I recently bought a Thrustmaster Warthog. Everything on it has such strong springs and the stick is raised quite high I swear I am getting RSI- which is why i bought a new CH stick.
-
Last I heard CH had sold their consumer line products to another company. I did my own repair on the last stick I had received by replacing the pots with higher quality parts, but even the supplier I bought from has changed sources several times. It's getting to where you just cannot find anything quality anymore. History repeats itself.

I have a Pro Throttle that is 15 years old and works great, except the USB connection needs to be reset if the computer is allowed to power down.
I bought a second Pro Throttle about a year ago and the throttle setting is "glitchy" and the base pads were uneven. (Returned it for warranty repair and they said nothing was wrong.)
So, yes I think CH quality has declined.

CH is no longer a family owned business, the Hayes family sold it to some French industrial company and ever since then the quality of CH Products has noticeably declined. So much so that after 20+ years of using CH gear that when I had to finally replace my 15 year old CH Pedals, I went with another company's product (VKB T-Rudders Mk IV) that are actually much superior to the CH Pedals.

Thanks popeye, ack-ack. This has helped make my decision to no longer purchase any CH gear in the future.
I just wanted to check that i wasn't just unlucky with my last 2 sticks.
