Post by: Xtrepid on October 23, 2016, 08:10:33 AM
After 1984(Steve Garvey), and 2003(Steve Bartman), I thought I'd never see the day...

My first time as a young lad in "The Friendly Confines"... 1963

It's been a long time coming...

LET'S DO THIS... CHICAGO CUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Title: World Series
Post by: Hajo on October 29, 2016, 03:13:18 PM
What a great series so far.  Pitching on both sides better then good.  If your an Indians fan or a Cubs fan you have to love this.

As always at the ball yard you pay through the nose for souvenirs and drinks.  Not to mention tickets at either field.

Series television audience if it reaches game 7 expected at this point to be the largest for baseball all time simply for the fact

that it is Cleveland vs. Chicago.  Both teams haven't won a World Series in a long time.  Cubs having to wait the longest.

Go Tribe!  (yep they weren't expected to get this far).

The pitching so far has been amazing! Indians have 5 shutouts this post season, most in history. I'm happy for both these teams. I wanted cubs to win, but my GFs family is from Cleveland, so I gotta play both teams. Can't believe Cleveland has a chance for an NBA championship and World Series. Something like 160 + years these teams combined haven't won a World Series. Im very happy with the Series so far. I use to pitch for about 15 years and took it very seriously. Love what I'm seeing so far.

Yep, great series so far. Personally, I hope it goes seven and that last game goes 16 innings

I'm kinda pulling for the Cubs  :headscratch: (even if they did eliminate my Giants), but either team will be a worthy champion.

One more win for the Tribe.  Bauer is pitching today I give the edge to the Cubs.  I haven't seen him pitch well this post season but anything can happen.

My bad. I should've never said I was pulling for the cubs.   :uhoh

The Indians looked real impressive tonight, if they play like that tomorrow night they'll fly home as champions.

Baseball fun to play but boring to watch. Never cared for it myself.

This match up is good for baseball.

Poor baby bears so far. Said from a Cards fan standpoint.   :devil

Even I cant bash the poor Cubs anymore, "Sox fan". But they blew golden opportunities this WS by not hitting crucial hits with runners on base. This series should be 3-1 Cubs right now with a little bit of hitting. They almost blew it last night too. Not good policy if your only going to get there every 108 years.

Well should they win it, and I doubt it but should they, at least it will be on the road and the riot wont be as bad. We had huge riots when the Bulls won.

I don't have a dog in this race but I really hope the cubs win just because it's been to long.

Edit: What about chapman?? Dude throws over 100 consistently lol

I think you can attribute the Cubs lack of offence to the excellent pitching by Cleveland. The three man rotation might end up hurting Cleveland as the series continues, but for right now Cleveland has all the advantages.

They are going back to Cleveland now, they will be able to utilize the DH. Shwabber might bring some good hits. Cubs have a chance tomorrow with Arriata. I agree with the offence for the cubs. Their batting has been weak. They cannot afford another 4-6 run game against them.

Toronto (Canada) Blue Jays have won the Series twice.

1992    Toronto Blue Jays (1, 1–0)    Cito Gaston    4–2    Atlanta Braves (6, 2–4)    Bobby Cox
1993    Toronto Blue Jays (2, 2–0)    Cito Gaston    4–2    Philadelphia Phillies (5, 1–4)    Jim Fregosi

Cubs have made it interesting now.

Hah, Blue Jays putting the "World" in World series.  Haha.  The Jays did well this year again, 2nd year in a row to the post season and they made it 1 round further...maybe next year is the year they go to the WS again.  Their knuckle ball pitcher is my favorite pitcher to watch, when he's on, it's hilarity watching guys trying to hit that floating thing.

It is amazing how far the Tribe has got considering losing two very good starting pitchers (Carasco and Slalazar #2 and #3 and having their best player out 90% of the year.  (Michael Brantley)

I knew it would come down to one game.  I was hoping for just 5..........but that ain't how it works. To bad the Manager of the year award has been voted on already.  Francona deserves it.

It was a great Series!   Even though I have been a Tribe fan for over 50 years I am happy for the Cubs.  They did it and deserved it.

I am also very proud of a depleted Tribe team that did the best they could under the circumstances.  Not having their #2 and #3 Starters  (Salazar an All-star and Corasco) they did well until the available horses wore down.

They also got their without their best player Michael Brantley.  Not an excuse........next man up!  Bauer wasn't in the pitching rotation at all in September.  Tomlin was at best a #4.  They did have Kluber though.

They gave a very talented Cubs team all they could handle until the last out.

Well done Cubs!  :aok

It was a great series, and a fantastic game 7. Both teams made some questionable decisions during the game, but they did give it their all.

Congrats to the Cubs, and respect to the Indians.

I was never a Harry Carey Fan. In real life he could be drunk, mean, and obnoxious and in professional life he was just drunk and babbling all the time. He almost fell out of the announcers booth a few times cause he was so stiff. His restaurant is terribly over priced. Harry used to have to keep a cheat sheet with the players names cause not only couldnt he remember them but he couldnt pronounce some of them right.

Now Jack Brickhouse? There was a great announcer. People forget he did Cubs broadcasts on WGN for 33 years including ushering the team on to the first cable network for WGN, yet nobody is even mentioning his name. He was part of the great, classy first wave of TV sports announcers yet I havnt heard his name the entire year.

My first Cubs game was about 1963. I went to most of the home games in '69 when they entered August with a 9 game lead over the Mets, in Tom Seavers rookie year, and they blew it to a great "miracle Mets" team who went on to win the '69 WS. I endured a lot of futility with the Cubs over the years which is why I became a Sox fan tho in truth it was the Tribune company who bought them that I hated.

Congrats to the Cubs. They had a tremendous year and have a lot of integrity on this team. And Guts.

Sorry, but the Rangers have been at it longer than the Astros, by one year, if I recall.
