Quote
Dean Blandino, NFL senior vice president of officiating, said on NFL Total Access Endgame after the game that the referees made two mistakes in the bizarre sequence just before halftime.

"It should have been unnecessary roughness," Blandino said about Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman's hit on Bills kicker Dan Carpenter on a 53-yard field goal attempt. Sherman only was deemed offsides on the play.

"The referee didn't think that the contact was severe enough, he felt that players were coming together and he just didn't think it was a foul," Blandino said. "We looked at it, it is a foul."

Sherman called out Goodell last week.  I will give him a mulligan on this one for that reason alone.

Haven't watched a game all season thanks to Paperneck.   Glad I got my Sundays back.

I've only seen a short replay so take me with a grain of salt. But looks like Sherman went for the ball and hit the kicker. That's fair to me. If he's offsides that's another story.

Cleveland blew a 3-1 lead.

He stuck his hand out "for the ball" but angled his shoulder to hit the kicker in the side of the knee on his plant leg. It was not an accident. That's how people's careers get ended.

Whiney little squeak.

The Seahawks defense has been mugging players for several years and he whines the first time their offense gets the same treatment.

And then doesn't man up when the referees miss a call on him the next week.

You see him see the ball still coming back...he should have understood he was getting the off sides call and checked up.

I am a Richard Sherman fan though..."This is what you get when you try me with a sorry bellybutton receiver like crabtree"

I always hated Crabtree....never produced well in Fantasy football.

I am sad to see a player of his caliber (and yes I think he is a top 5 corner) resorting to trying to hurt someone. Hopefully the league gives him a nice healthy fine, and not the 20 grand variety. He needs about a games pay worth.

He never committed to block the kick or he would have held his arms out. He lowered his shoulder right into the kicker's knee then shrugs his shoulders and yucks it up on the sideline afterward. He's a piece of human garbage for trying to hurt a kicker on purpose and should be suspended for it.

Oh crap. Is the kicker really injured?

Oh crap. Is the kicker really injured?

Trainers came out which caused a fiasco at the end of the half. Kicker had to leave for a play. Bills spike ball to get him back him. Ref stands over ball until four seconds in play clock resulting in delay of game penalty. Kicker misses longer kick (he made kick on delay of game penalty).

I know the joke is that kickers aren't really players but there is no call for trying to hurt the guy. It's simply a dirty play.

Looks like he hit the ball first.

That means he has right of way, and the kicker in IN THE WAY.

play looks clean as a whistle, its football

He had no right of way.  He was offside.  The fault for this happening is with the officials who stood there and looked dumbfounded to see Sherman so far offside.  They should have blown the whistle immediately.

By halting the play the contact may not have happened.  But.........Sherman knew he was offside.  Ya he touched the ball and immediately rolled into the kickers leg.  Dirty play intentionally made on his part to

hurt the kicker.

I played two years of college rugby, and two years of semi-pro rugby. During those years I blocked more than a few kicks. It is very, very painful because you typically get the ball and then leg, etc. I've been kicked harder than I care to remember. What I see is a player realizing that to block the kick he would have to protect his body, and rolled into the kick. I don't see it as cheap by any means.

The only problem is the NFL senior vice president of officiating disagrees with you.

Except the officials were blowing the whistle 3 seconds before that.

I played three years of rugby in college. I had caps at all 15 positions. I also played football. I blocked kicks as well. But I aimed for the front of the kicking leg hoping to get the ball before the foot. I never aimed for the plant leg which Sherman did. That's what I consider dirty. It doesn't help that he has a history of cheap shots.

What about the President of Officiating?   What is the 411 from him?
