I have a 3d projector, surround sound system, and a Marantz receiver that will not pass 3d signals. Back when Direct tv had some 3d channels, I recorded a lot of programs.
All of my current connections are hdmi cables. Is there a way to run things and still have the 5.1 sound that is recorded in the programming? In other words, is there a way to do this or will I have to upgrade my receiver to pass 3d signals. I was hoping there might be a way to run the hdmi from the direct tv receiver directly to the projector and bypass the receiver but didn't know what to do about routing a sound signal back to the Marantz receiver somehow.
Is there a way to do it? Thanks.

If you're projector has a digital audio output ( An orange RCA connector, or an optical audio output), then you can send video direct to your projector and use the projector to pass the HDMI audio onto your home theater receiver.
one option...
IF no audio "pass-though" is available on your 3d projector, you might be buggered in that you'll need a new receiver to handle the video format.

Are you using a Directv receiver and outputting it to the projector?
Look at the back of the TV/DVR receiver. You should be able to find a Digital Audio output on there and run that cable to your stereo to get the audio.
Then run the HDMI to the project, bypassing the passthru feature of the Marantz.
You may be able to do both through the Marantz -- the HDMI, to pass the video, and the Digital Audio, for the sound, but I'm not sure.
