Title: Metallica's new album
Post by: Devil 505 on November 16, 2016, 08:42:57 PM
Just listened to Metallica's new album, "Hardwired...to Self-Destruct."

This "New Metallica" is about as good as the last "New Metallica" (2008), which is much better than the old "New Metallica" (1994-2002) and almost as good as the first "New Metallica" (1990) but not nearly as good as the new "Old Metallica" (1988) and especially not close to the greatness of old "Old Metallica" (1983-1986)

In short, Megadeth is still better.

After the black album metallica began producing main stream accessible music for its marketability. In other words for decades now they've been making music for people who dont like metallica.

So wait its just as bad as St. Anger? I think I listened to it once and put it back in the case to never be listened to again.  If its as good as Load or Reload, I'll buy it though, some good songs on those.

I still like OLD Metallica (exp: "Ride the Lightening") and I DO like "Whiskey in the Jar"
Other than that I don't listen to them. I don't even bother with their new stuff...and I just happened to hear "Whiskey in the Jar" on the radio and liked it for itself.

Just listened to Moth Into Flame its pretty good. They did the force awakens thing and went retro. The lyrics aren't up to the 80s Metallica standards tho.

And justice for all was the last really good album. The black album was mediocre and after that its crap.

St. Anger was strait up awful. Hardwired is on par with Death Magnetic for better and worse. It has a more diverse sound which kind of covers their entire discography. James sounds better than he has in years, but unfortunately the lyrics are mostly mediocre and nonsensical. If you like their 90's stuff then check it out.

Mostly. The lyrics and tuning really hold it back from reaching that level. "Moth into Flame" is very good, as is "Atlas, Rise!" but a couple of other "thrashy" songs I think are pretty flat - especially "Hardwired"

Things started getting weird with Metallica after Garage, Inc.  The music just turned bad.  I wish I could articulate it better, but that's what it boils down to.  Metallica S&M, using a full symphony was pretty neat though.

There's not much metallica I don't like.  I don't lime St. Anger.  Who really does??  The drums sound like someone banging on a trashcan lid.  I was skeptical of Death Magnetic at first but it grew on me.  I hope hardwired isn't all like the title track.  It sucks.

Justice for All still my favorite.

Agreed.  Pioneers to crap over the decades.  Breaks my heart.

Metallica DIED when Cliff Was Killed in the bus crash no matter how hard they try imho anything after Justice for All even tho I did like Garage Days but the rest are  Crap how many versions of the song Unforgiven can you do, The best Concert I saw was the Free Concert they did in Philly Called the Million Decibel March. Granted they did have some decent songs in between but nothing i would write home about. Also after reading some reports now they want to try and do a show where they hologram Lars in instead of him playing live and Kirk is kinda Ticked cause unlike past albums he had alot to do with the song writing and guitar riff's now to me Metallica is just the James and Lars show and no others count. Sorry I like the original bands line up James, Dave, Cliff and Lar's back in the early 80's ashame Cliff Died and James got ticked that Mustaine could out drink him and they fought all the time..Long Live Cliff!!!

just my 2 cents

I liked by cassette of "garage days re-visited".

Jason proved his worth by constructing the space where they played and recording the bass.

That cassette was cool because it had a sticker on it that said "$5.98 EP......If they try to charge more, STEAL IT!"

Pretty much yeah, Master of Puppets was their peak and their legacy. Hardwired is just ok, definitely not a "comeback" album.

Sol Invictus is a way, way, waaay better comeback album.

Is it just me or does the tail end of "halo on fire" sound like the cult?

Reminds me more of Dio era Black Sabbath - I like it.

But I do hear The Cult similarity too.

I'm not a huge Metallica fan but I think their new CD is a revival of their spirit. It's a lot heavier "mainstream" than most stuff today. I think it's a good band to get people into the heavier rock. I actually think their new CD is quite good. It brings a lot of old school rifs and metal sounds. Atlas, rise! and Spit Out The Bone are 2 good ones from the CD. I wasn't a fan of their last few albums, but this new one sounds more like their style.
