Title: Vote Request on Melee Arena Being Daytime Only

I have to compliment AH on the amazing job they did on night time.  :aok  Very pretty too.

I'd prefer to fly during game daylight hours though exclusively.  Could we vote on having the game be daytime only in the Melee Arena?

Night time could still be used for scenarios etc.

We do NOT have night time. We have day, Dusk, and Dawn. That is why when it goes from dusk to dawn you see the sun flip to the east. It also explains why you never see the sun flip to the west as the day moves it slowly across the sky.

Yes this dusk/dawn cycle seems to get a bit darker depending on which side of the map you are playing. Personally Im not too crazy about it either, but it is for such a short time I try not to let it bother me.

I do not like nighttime and I won't fly in it. It's a waste of time for me personally.

such a short time bothers some people to stop playing.  I just log off when I see it.

Why is it some players "can't see" when it's dark in the ma and other can see fine? The only thing I can think of is that those who can't see objects at night either have their monitors not calibrated correctly or they have leukemia or some kind of anemic disorder.

Reminds me of when we had the first desert MA terrain. There was a vocal minority who complained, I toejam you not, that the particular color of the ground textures caused them physical pain. Talk about some whiny squeakes, this game seems to attract world class whiny squeakes.

When it's night in the ma, the only thing that changes is the sky becomes dark and the stars are visible. All objects and terrain are still illuminated as if it was day. It's not realistically dark at all.

HTC don't get rid of the night, it will attract new players who aren't crotchety old men.

Notice that all objects are easily visible and the only thing that is dark is the sky, which makes the glowing planes even more visible in flight. Also I should add this is 1.0 default gamma setting.

Because a lot of players just up the gamma levels and turn night into day so they can see.  Just like players did when we used to have night times a long time ago.

You don't need to do this gamma thing at all. I don't care if you do, but this night stuff makes you a more competent flier. You still have a neon guide to the enemy. The only thing about night is the pause-and-play issue, which no doubt will get sorted out.

I don't adjust the gamma and as you can see from the screenshot I can see fine.

I like the change when it happens.  Hard to believe people log off for a few minutes of lighting change.  Windows has a decent gamma setting calibration.

yep, options/graphics/gamma to 2.0 or 3.0  and everyone gets a free starlight scope.

I don't mind night and dusk/sunrise ... I do find the insta change in lighting a bit off putting though...trying to smooth that out would be nice...but otherwise...I like it

Upping the gamma levels to see in the dark pretty much defeats the purpose of having a night time phase.

But you can see everything with gamma 1.0, so why diddlyup your gamma settings? Unless your contrast settings are already diddlyedup I don't see any need to mess up your gamma.

This is what I don't get, myself and probably most players can see fine at night with default gamma settings. Why doesn't everyone?

you mean the night changed from years ago when most players would logoff due to not be able to see at night unless they changed their gamma?

if you can see as good during the night as during the day, then why have the night at all?

Well firstly I don't ever remember more than half of the arena logging out at dusk but I may wrong. As far as I can tell it hasn't changed, It looks the same to me. And I didn't understand why people were complaining back then either. But then again those were some of the same people who claimed that shades of brown cause them pain.

Look, the proof is in the screenshot I posted, you can clearly see that all objects are illuminated and easily visible. And that is with default gamma settings.

So I again ask, why are people saying that they can't see when it's dark in the ma? Is it their video cards, is it their monitor settings, is it their eyes?

It's like the blue/black/white/gold dress all over again.

Some of you guys might remember this, back in the day in EQ they had the same problem with players complaining about visibility at night and adjusting their gamma etc. So EQ was patched so that upon game startup the EQ program would adjust the players display settings to normal, and then when the game was closed it would reset the dispay settings to the diddlyedup way that the player had it before. This system seemed to work pretty well and for the most part players stopped complaining about darkness.

The dawn and dusk times are more of a problem for me than night.   
I crank my gamma to 11 when it starts getting dark.   :uhoh

+1 on scrapping the dark.  Leave it to events.

As long as I need to change icon colors, and change gamma I just wait in tower, and I'm not alone
Very few missions where flown with daylight fighters/bombers drung nights.
