I bought these two wheels today, with two additional unused tires. Any idea what they may be from? The tires are 20 X 5.5 type VIIB. The rims are made by BFGOODRICH Akron Ohio. Part number G 10 598 (One stamped G 10 599M.)

A6 Intruder and a couple other Navy airplanes used those tires on the nose gear. I don't have a resource on the wheels.

Another couple of years doing garage sales and stuff, and asking how wide does a hangar door need to be, I would think you will start on the AeroGoaly1. :airplane:

Golfer might be on to something. The A-1 Skyraider has very similar looking wheels. Perhaps the tires are the same size too?

I would think they have to be nose wheels, as there are no brake attachment points. The only difference between the two halves is the 599 part does not have a hole for the valve stem.
I also wonder if they could have come from a prototype or test aircraft. The serial number on the parts are so low, there are two wheels and four tires that have absolutely no wear, and the guy I bought them from said they were surplused from Wright Patterson many years ago. They did a lot of testing at that base.

The A-1 wheel/tire looks very similar but per Golfer's book, it doesn't match the size.

Also of note is the fact that the rim has one odd ‘spoke’ on each side. At the location of the odd spoke, the 598 half has a hole for the valve stem. The 599 half of the rim does not. I assume the 598 half faces out, so the valve stem is accessible at all times when the wheel is mounted to an aircraft. Also, the outer diameter of the wheel is only 20 inches. Much too small for an A1.
