Not complaining here but we clearly signed up as Axis (like usual) then we find out we are Allied.  Second time in recent history that this has happened without any heads up.  Grumble, grumble.... :headscratch:

I always say we will fly anything and we have always been flexible for the good of the event.  I just hate the surprise when I login and find Allied objectives in the inbox when I know we signed up as Axis.

I've been fixing water leaks for the last 4 days...I've been out past midnight the last 2 nights...I walk in my office this morning to find Allied orders...

Squadname: ~Air Raiders~

 Commitment Level: 4-6

 Active: Y

 Side Preference: Axis

 Ride Preference Frame 1: Fighter

 Ride Preference Frame 2: Fighter

 Ride Preference Frame 3: Fighter

I don't ask to go Allied...and when I do I post it on the update squad info for the month thread...

Grumble, Grumble are not my sentiments....

Why even ask a squad what side preference they have????

I'm totally pissed now...I don't even think I have asked for Allied this whole year...

And I am complaining...this is what I get for not paying attention to the game when all hell breaks lose at work

I know some fellas are PO'd, but this is FSO.  This is the top notch of AH's elite squadrons-professional as it is going to get for a game.  We need to read the assignments, orders and get the job done.

My own squad swaps sides almost every month and I have been denied our choice twice in the last 8-9 requests.  In my opinion there is no reserved seating on one side or the other, and all squads will have to take a rotation to the both sides at times. This gives everyone the opportunity to fly aircraft on both sides if they wish to do so, and I would imagine the CM's take this in consideration when the requests get put in.

There is also another change that factors in here.  G3-MF is currently on hiatus and it will cause everyone to adjust the next two months.  Get ready it may happen again in January to balance sides.

Don't take this the wrong way, but there are squads who do not rotate.....   It's just the way it is.

I do not see this written into the rules page for FSO.  It is just the way it is... does not make sense for the FSO community.  I am not saying kick squads off one side or the other but, folks should be willing to swap sides every now and then to accommodate others and provide the balance and variety needed to keep FSO fresh.

Way, another problem to consider is that some squads neglect to update their preferences every month.

Also I must agree with J500ss - as my squad requests Axis every month on purpose. And I know that other squads have a specific side they request every month as well.

What I would like to see is a column in the assignments table for every squad's selected preference. This way the community can see how the preferences were distributed. I know of another squad besides yours that was placed opposite of their request this month and can assume a third as well based on that squad's history - all placed on the Allies this month BTW.

I concur on the updates.  Probably the largest issue.  We all handle side preference differently squad to squad.   We Pigs vote every month and I put in the side the group has chosen.  Two times we were not given the side we requested in the last year.  I did not complain though because side preference is not a given according to the FSO rules.  I feel that all squadrons can and should expect a rotation on occasion to accommodate the needs of each monthly event and the preferences of others.  Basically give everyone a chance at different rides if they want it.

For my events personally, I will do my best to honor side preferences, but if there is an imbalance with numbers then I will rotate switching people around for my FSO's.

In my eyes I have to rotate people at least everyone gets a turn on the opposite side. It's better than having some groups stay on one side, while other groups get switched around constantly.

Could we get an extra FSO registration data field to mark squads willing to go either side, but having a preference?

Don't take this the wrong way, but there are squads who do not rotate.....   It's just the way it is.

Why?

It is called a "side preference" not a side "choice".

In my opinion, participating in a community run event should come with the mindset of doing what is best for the community and event.  Giving FSO planners the most amount of flexibility is what is best for the community and event setup.

Sometimes you don't get what you want.  When you don't, you put on your big-boy pants and suck it up. (Not directed at you j500, but some of the eternal whiners on here.)  FSO can be fun whatever side you fly on.  It is what you make of it.

Just for the record here there does not need to be any reinvention of the wheel.  My reply was directed to BFoot and he PM'd me with what happened and we are good to go.

Bottom line is all I am asking for is communication if you are not going to get your selected/preferred side. And yes we updated our side request early.

We have flown FSO for 12-13 years now (that I have been involved with it) and have historically been an Axis squad.  Back when FSO wasn't cool nobody wanted to be the "bad guys" so we always signed up as Axis.

This squad knows all to well what it is to take one for the team and normally we don't complain about any of it.  We love FSO and are here to participate because this is what we do on a Friday night.

Let's fly!   :airplane:

No slight intended Trainee. Just airing out two cents on preferences and none of it was directed at any one squad.

trainee, it happened to JG54 for also. I voiced my displeasure over it. all I was really looking for was a "hey, we need you to fly allies this month" and we would've been good with it. while I will always go with the flow, a little communication goes a long way.
