Title: Mission Theater in AvA this Tuesday!!
Post by: jimson on December 03, 2016, 11:39:16 PM
We especially need pilots to fly the axis side.

It starts at 9pm est.

What you do is be in the arena before 9pm. Go to staged missions-populate mission. Click on your name and then double click on the slot you want. You will automatically spawn into the mission. Unclaimed slots will be flown by AI.

What kind of mission will it be? Well, you will just have to be there and in the mission by 9pm est to see the briefing.

If you are late you can always try joining the mission in progress, but for whatever reason, that doesn't always work.

Here's a video to get you pumped for it.  http://missiontheater.net/video

STAGED MISSIONS INSTRUCTIONS.

When in the tower, click "staged missions" on your
clipboard and then "populate mission" Click on your
name in the list on the left side of the panel, then
double click the slot you want under Allies or Axis
section.
In this mission, Allies are listed as blue3, red2 etc. All these slots
are Spitfire MK V. Axis slots are listed by plane model.

When mission starts, you will automatically spawn into the
briefing room and then into a plane. If you wish to leave
the mission, go back to mission populate, click on your
name and click unassign.

I apologize folks

I had to be in a neighboring town because my Grandmother was having hip surgery and we didn't know if she would survive it.

Obviously something went wrong. The mission was fully tested numerous times in a custom arena but it wont run in AvA. In fact no mission will run in the AvA right now.

Sorry to leave Jaeger holding the bag, but it wouldn't have run for me either.

The timing couldn't have been worse. After advertising the heck out of it. We get quite a few people in and now we look like fools.

I'll spend the next week trying to figure out what happened.

I am really, really sorry about this.

Fools? No! When trying something different, things can and will go wrong. Keep thinking out of the box. That will make the AVA become a place to be.

Those afraid to take the first step fail to make a ripple. Those that press on can make waves past the horizon.

stuff happens we all know that. Jaeger gave it the best try he could to make it work and everyone seemed pretty game. Once it was known that it wasn't happening we went and furballed a bit.   :aok

What Shuff and Kanth said...
The evening ended with the classic AvA dogfight over the channel. That was worth a 30 minute wait in the tower for me.  :D

Thanks guys. Well my Grandmother survived the surgery, however at 97, who knows what the prognosis is, but we had to take a chance because she is still active. I take her fishing every Tuesday morning that I can, and the only alternative to surgery was for her to be bedridden for the rest of her life. We all decided it would be better for her to pass away on the table then that.

Toughest woman I have ever known. How blessed to be in your 50's and still have a grandmother.

As for the mission, things go wrong but this was terrible timing. We had successfully run 3 weeks and knowing that it worked, we advertised the heck out of it and wanted last night to be a showcase.

It was my fault for assuming if it ran in a custom arena, it would run it AvA. Test runs in AvA earlier on Tuesday will be SOP from now on.

Provided the issue gets resolved, we will run it next Tuesday.

In my case, I am kind of glad it didnt work! I got all messed up again and couldnt make it. That would have drove me crazier, knowing I missed out on BIG FUN.  :x I too have a 97 year old Grandmother. She still cooks Thanksgiving dinner. I am 44 and she can run circles around me, mostly because of lack of exercise on my part....Thanks AH :old:

No sweat, Jimson. I was on the original special events team, running my first staged event while AH was still in beta. Ironically, it was Spit's versus 109's (I seem to recall that was about 67% of the available plane-set, at the time). A lot of the arena set up tools early on were a bit tricky to get set up correctly. While I was anxious to try a staged mission, I had fun anyway. Flying with enemy icons off was an interesting experience. Really ups the pucker factor. I tried to approach it as if my life was actually on the line, i.e. fly smart, don't turn and burn at low alt, and fight in the vertical as much as possible. While I didn't get any kills, I did get a piece of one Spit, cleared a few friendly tails, and made it home alive. Looking forward to future events.

Glad to hear your grandmother made it through the surgery. Prayers for a good recovery.
