Title: External instrument and control interface
Post by: mcmasterp on December 06, 2016, 08:23:38 AM
I would love to build myself a cockpit with physical buttons and displays. I am doing so with an arduino using keyboard mapping but that does not give me info back out from the game for things like instruments, radios, etc.
I can't be the only one who wants to build a sweet cockpit

It is a combat simulator, in which you have to purchase your aircraft with real $$$.

Oh ok yes I have just recently heard of them. I don't see how this is related. I just want to make things easier to read and interact with as well as increase realism. I can't think of a reason for aces high people or anyone else to hate this idea

I don't hate it the idea. I think it'd be a pretty slick feature. I know that there are some folks here that have built their own cockpits. To have buttons/switches and gauges that work would be pretty cool.

Ah has had an external interface for a very long time (2001 or sor), we simply do not publish the specs.
If you are serious about building a Cockpit, I'll would be happy to work with you.

POOF!!!!
Wish granted...
If you do build this masterp please post some pics in the hardware and software forum so we can follow your build...this would be something I would love to have...and I'm sure others would as well...

Oh yes please. I would love to build a better setup. I have a 3 monitor setup that is capable of a 5 monitor display. I also am already building an arduino control panel.
I'll try and document it as much as possible. I have 3d printers, vacuum former, lathe, cnc router, laser cutter, and other needed tools to get way to into it lol

So you're looking to do something like this but for Aces High?

That would be awesome! Are you going to make a cockpit for one aircraft, or kind of a universal cockpit?

I know right. I kinda makes it a wwii flight sim. maybe one day they're even be an earth map. But I digress.
Yes something similar to that guys, setup largely generic since I fly many planes. It would of course be simpler (lucky me) since our planes aren't chocked full of avonics. I picture two column racks on either side of my TM hotas, made from 2020 extrusion so panels can be added and removed. control clusters can be simple arduino setups all plugged into a usb hub, one arduino per cluster is dirt cheap and makes swapping easier. For displays I imagine something based on raspi3 with tft displays, though the possibility of small flat screen monitor or even a web based cluster displayed on a tablet.

I did this a long time back for FSX.

Well those are just completely amazing. I'd have to sell a kidney to afford it though so we'll see. A raspi3 with 3" tft or so is a lot cheaper and I can 3d print a body if I please.

What a worthless response. Drop your elitist attitude and get off the Internet for awhile--your angst and bitterness aren't doing anyone any favors. Dude asked a perfectly appropriate and reasonable question.
