An amazing read, from one of only five remaining survivors of the USS Arizona...An American hero.

Donald Stratton was a seaman first-class aboard the USS Arizona on December 7, 1941. After a year-long recovery from wounds suffered in the attack on Pearl Harbor, he reenlisted and served on the destroyer USS Stack during the Okinawa invasion and other battles.

Post a review, once you finish reading it, Skuzzy!

I ordered the book too.

I received my book today. It is about the size of a Readers Digest except thicker and hardback of course.
Will be reading it for the next few days or so.

I can't put the book down. It's captivating and gives the reader the insight to life on the Arizona, and what her crew was doing in the hours prior to the attack. Living life with no worries. I may require my class to read this book or at least part of it, because the people mentioned are brought to life as ordinary people who performed extraordinary things that infamous day.
It's a must read from me :salute

Going to order it today based on the above. They have an epub/kindle version of the book that's only $16.
Bfoot - are you a teacher? If so, I wish there were more like you.

In agreement with BFOOT1 100%. I'll even add this book should be mandatory reading in school.

Great book, very interesting take on how the Great Depression forged the Americans who went to war, the author does a great job of describing how he feels about that. Very vivid description of the attack on Pearl, interesting things as well about life aboard the ship prior to that, and how it almost wasn't even in Pearl, and ended up being there by accident. The author was a true hero, incredible how he and a few others survived thanks to another sailor standing up to an officer, and even after the terrible burns and wounds, he still went back in 44 to serve on a destroyer.
Important piece of American history told by a man who describes himself as just a regular American, like all his shipmates.
