Title: Curious, where is the Battleship?
Post by: oboe on December 13, 2016, 03:44:53 PM
I remember seeing it in the Alpha or Beta, but I've never seen one in game yet.

They had to incorporate a place for Cybro to land on before it get released.

Offline I was able to add it to an existing task group to test the 16 inch guns. Wonder if we are supposed to discover that on our own?

I remember the mention of a Battleship in beta. One of the things was that it would take 30 seconds to reload. Really would like to see it.

I see what you did there!  Very clever.

I'm anxious to see the BB unload salvo after salvo against an island town/airfield - in support of a dozen LSTs making their way to the beach.   With ground pounding Hellcats and Corsairs winging from the CV group passing close overhead.

Here is the problem:

The BB object is considered a tower object like the CV. When I add it to an existing task group to play with it, the error checker tells me I have one too many towers attached to that field. This means I cannot upload it to the HOST for you.
-------------------------

So it is sitting in a task group on a version of my gunnery terrain offline and I can access the guns when I'm sitting in the CV bridge and go into the hanger to select manned guns. And there is a second task group steaming at my task group to be used as gunnery practice.

Next thought would be, last year when I was first building my gunnery terrain and testing AH3, we were asked to test the BB. So I introduced it into a CV task group and tested it. Because it candle sticked like a CV, I tried to build a manual task group with it as the center. At that time it didn't work.

Let me see with that error saying one too many towers in the task group, if now I can build a manual task group with the BB as the tower or, even it alone as a lone wolf. Uploading to the custom terrain HOST requires the terrain pass the error checker. I'm not sure Hitech really wants me to make the version of my terrain that is available from the HOST, available from my google drive with the double tower error just to give you access to this thing.

Here it really does exist, these are from today when I discovered the double tower error. The 16 inch turret reload sound effects are awesome....

A player-controlled lone-wolf convoy-raiding battleship would be quite an awesome use of a boatload of perk points.   :devil   If only we had convoys!

So I got it to be it's own task group of one. Gave it a port, laid down it's way points, ran the build then error check. Says it's missing a map room and an officers club. I know for testing offline I don't have to lay down a map room. The missing officers club, well the BB has a bridge that looks a bit like the CV bridge, ok. When you go to the hanger to select guns, you are sitting out over open water with only the clip board. But, it was in lone wolf mode following the way points I set to attack my two gunnery training task groups in bish land.

So I cannot upload to the custom terrains HOST a terrain with errors which the TE throws if I add the BB to an existing task group. But, you can choose guns for it as you saw in my screen shots. So I guess we have to wait for Hitech or Waffle to add the final component that gives you the equivalent of the hanger so you can select guns. And I wonder if the BB will have a different icon from the CV task group.

If any of you really want to do this, follow this link for the AH2 terrain editor, the instructions hold true for AH3. Use Mrmidi's tutorial to get some land and water down. Follow the instructions for putting in a task group.

http://www.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Terrain_Editor

Then to find the BB, under the object selection tab you check "show all objects". It is named "BB". Then find your task group and pick one of the support ships and open it's properties window. You will see the support ship is owned by the field number you gave the CV group when you followed those TE instructions. Then under the "Zone:" selection is "ID:" and a number 1-5 in "ID:". Put the BB down close to the task group with the same spacing as all the ships. In it's properties window make it owned by the CV group field number and give it the "ID:" of 6. Save and run the build. Then check it out offline.

If you want another task group to shoot at, add another one nearby in the same country as your first one. Then offline go into arena setup and turn off protect objects before you open fire.

Other wise, when Hitech or Waffle get this ready for prime time, I'll add it into my offline gunnery training terrain available from the custom terrain HOST.

Good info, Bustr, thanks. By the way, how does one access the "custom terrain HOST" to download and access your gunnery terrain offline?

1. - Login to the arena selction screen.
2. - Click on the Player tab.
3. - Click create terrain.
4. - In the popout screen from the terrain list select "gunnery".
5. - Make no other changes and click create.
6. - When you are in the tower, go into arena setup in the clipboard and CM Tools.
7. - Click on reset arena to close it down.

Now you have the gunnery.res file in your terrains selection menu for offline terrains.

Go to this link, read and download the files for offline only setup.
