When things go well, I start tracking my score and check my ranking. I feel good when I get into the top ten. But top ten of what? A thousand players? One hundred?
How many people are flying during a camp?
I used to know how to find this, but the brain cells are falling away.

Currently about 1500 pilot IDs with at least one registered kill or death per tour.

But then again there are probably only 15 who care about their score. :D

Does that mean that if you find yourself ranking 1501 on the Roster in the game, there's at least that number of players having been active during that tour?

Yes, at least 1501 pilots had been ranked in that particular category. I insist on saying 'pilot IDs', because we can't actually track the players, just the pilot ID's they are using and a single player can have more than one 'pilot ID' associated with him (though I believe that secondary or 'shade' account are actually relatively rare compared to many other games).
Of course, among those ranked will be those who downloaded the game, spawned once, couldn't get their plane in the air and were never seen again. For my statistics, I only track pilots with at least one registered kill or death, which will be always a somewhat lesser number.

Hahahaha!
The only time I care about rank is when I need a boat to go somewhere. I die way too much for rank to mean anything. But I hear the chicks dig a good rank.
:rock

Hmmm what does it mean when you have a rank of 0..... :devil
Almost every time I log in I'm ranked 0........ :rofl :rofl

Far better to bring a laptop and your stick setup and show her what you can do. Once she sees you land a few kills, or if you die, win the ensuing gripe fest on 200, she will be all. over. you.

True story - I dated a woman whose father flew P-51s towards the end of the war. I mentioned the game to him once. Just once.

but I have seen people with the same rank, in the same category...

Yes, that happens a lot, but why "but"?

If the highest rank is 1501, but some people are ranked the same, then that means there more than 1501 pilots, right? Or am I over thinking it?

That's why I wrote "at least" :)

I never play for score, but I'm currently in the 40s overall and I have not a clue of how score works.
So I think if you just enjoy the game to the fullest like I do, meaning fly/drive a little bit of everything, you can be well within the top 100. I'm pretty sure if u pay a bit of attention on what you do/how u do it you can end up in the top 10-20 easy breezy ... if that's your thing ... :old:

I never play for score and I dont think there's a tour where I didnt rank in the top 95% except for those I didnt actually fly.

This game is not about "score" but it does create competition. The fact that scores change every month is a fantastic decision. This gives anyone who wants to scale the charts a real chance. Playing for score is not always in the best interest of the strategy aspect to AH. It's designed to measure performance to total degree of measurements. You have to learn how to utilize each measurement in 1 sortie to maximize those specific categories. Again this is not necessarily in the best interest of taking bases and winning the map, therefore score does not measure total strategy skills and techniques to winning the map, per se. It's a great way to measure personal performance if that is what you are into. I don't think it's right to bash people who achieve high scores, because it does take "skill". It does take a firm understanding of the game play. Some people hate the way other play to achieve it, but war was never fair. In some cases, AH reflects war like no other because of so much unfairness and challenge. Flying and tanking in the best equipment does help and does make it easier. That is true.
I always thought rank was a fun challenge to achieve, and now it reflects in my flying style. I think it's also made me far better at the game and understanding fighter combat situations in the MA. I normally only fly fighters because it's exciting and I don't have time for long bomber and tank missions anymore.
This game is all about how you want to play it, whether you fight for score, or just want to capture bases, or Furball to the extreme and die in crazy fights. It's challenging in every aspect. I think thats what makes AH great.

Which shows that only a minority of players does really flys for rank. When just doing a little bit of everything gets you a better overall rank than 90% of the playerbase, not many players can be really trying hard for it.
-
Yep, exactly my point, very few actually participate in the 4 'aspects' that AH has to offer. :old:

Just having fun will do that over time. Funny how that happens and you don't even have to try. Just have fun.

So there's MORE than 1500 flying in a camp? Awesome!

Exactly! having only 25% of player that we use to have is NOT awesome.

Oh, the days of 5k or even 6k+ pilot IDs with at least one kill or death are long gone <sigh> :old:
Remember when you had to hurry up to get home before early evening, when the LW arena cap kicked in? About 150 players in LWO and when you logged on just after the cap started, you had to wait for about an hour before LWB had reached 100+ players as well.
We used to be upset, but these days it sounds like paradise, doesn't it? ;)

Once the emphasis on fighter planes, map making, and squad play start to pick up, the player base will increase again! Maps make a huge difference in this game, believe it or not.
I also think planes make a big difference. If everyone is in 190Ds and high alt fighter to be able to "extend" from any slight of trouble or bad playing, then you create an arena full of super fast planes and timid flyers. Just my opinion though.

Wasn't that around the time when HTC had advertisements (that didn't work) running on the History channel :bolt:

As long as you rank in the top 100% dont worry about it

if you take a bath or shower everyday you won't rank
