This is just some food for thought. :uhoh I wonder how hard it would be to run the game with some changes(like most think is a problem) on a month by month or even map by map trial? Like have a vote on some of the key gripes about game play and see what the consensus is. Like go a month with no eny or a month with side switch times set below 6 hours or even maybe a 2 country map? Let the voting be open to any active player, not bbs subscribers that arent in the arenas. True, most players dont use the BBS but a MOD could alert those players that there is a vote and to sign up to BBS to cast one. I think this could go a long way to help out some of the perceived dislikes? Yes, I know, someone is still gonna gripe because they didnt get their way, but votes have consequences. I also know that this isnt a Democratic Republic and Hightech really has no obligation to change anything, but this maybe could cut down on the whining? I love this game! You guys are just about the only non family contacts I have, on a daily basis. This displeasure about game play bothers me! I dont like thinking that folk will quit the game over some of these issues. So like I said, :headscratch: just some food for thought.

How dare you!
-
first change is to remove all manned ack and auto ack. yes! no more puffy ack as the only enemy, that's always there. :pray
we will not tolerate flying ten minutes to play chicken with a computer! a computer that is simply toying with me.
And no more grinning manned gun drivers with one shot kills on bored pilots!
-
Much of the feedback on the forums (whining) can be fixed with changes in players' behavior. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have bombed-and-bailed, Ho'd, ran to ack, bombed buildings, resupplied towns and most of the actions that people complain about. Not often, but I am not without dishonorable moments.
Stuff like ENY, just fly different planes. For ack, kill the guns. For ridiculously accurate 5" guns, fly somewhere else.
Don't pout about others not playing your style. Change what you control: your own actions and attitude.
HiTech is not totally insensitive to player feedback. Changes to the game happen from time to time based on player feedback. The strat layout, low altitude detection limit for radar, radar circle size ... and others I can't recall.
It's not all bad. Have fun while the game lasts.

Many HAVE quit. Most of the complaints can be laid at the players feet. Game play is what has caused most of the issues.
Resupply towns, because they cant fight their way out of a wet paper bag/ dont want to die.
run from fights, because they cant fight their way out of a wet paper bag/ dont want to die.
bomb and bail, takes too long to get back/because they cant fight their way out of a wet paper bag/ dont want to die.
ENY, must be on the winnning team and that means more numbers because they cant fight their way out of a wet paper bag/ dont want to die.
Unfortunately the players aren't going to change how they play, its a generational thing. Gamers play for a single goal "WIN the war", where those of us who are complaining are looking for the whole experience of the "war", minus all the messy parts.
HTC CAN fix it by adjusting the game mechanics making it harder for large groups, and easier for small ones to take bases. Imagine the "horde" split into 5-6 small attacks on 5-6 bases. Even the low numbered team would have a chance to hold them off at some bases. More fights, more fun.
To the point, "Would this be feasible?", Im a firm believer that ANYTHING is possible. Will HTC make changes? I hope so because it getting harder and harder to find a good fight any more and the numbers seem to show that we are NOT headed in the right direction with what we have.

I disagree. Since AHIII's gone live, I find a significant increase in dogfites. NDIsles always has a lively furball on the center isle. While it's not my favorite map, Sawzall always has dogfites going on.
As for numbers, as has been surmised by others, once the bugs of AHIII are a thing of the past, I'm betting that HTC will step up it presence on social media and inaugurate an advertising campaign. While the game will probably never see the Titanic Tuesday crowds of 600+, we're seeing numbers in excess of 200 on weekends...which is a pretty good jump over the numbers from the last few years.

I often busted your Squads, CH's, as well as Jokers Jokers missions. You leave one manned ack up and I'd get 4-5 before anyone realized it. It is not the games fault that some exercise complacency.

Every thing was spot on except the red bit. All that would happen is a horde will run capture bases one at a time, only much faster. Easier goal achievement will not end the existing mob mentality.

If the horde was spit you would have 5 or 6 fights going on at the same time. While an undermanned team isn't going to be able to stop them all they could stop a number of them and not feel so over whelmed as they do now with a horde of 50 players to take a single V base.
Im not looking to have everything "even steven" , Im just looking for it to be more fun with out it being so discouraging/frustrating.

Wish I was flying were you were then yesterday as I said, there were almost zero fights for the Rooks, unless you call chasing TU2s a fight, or manning the guns on a ship shooting another ship killing guns a fight. Buzzsaw has become the worst map for fighting.

What makes you think that the horde will split up? I doubt they would very much. There might be a small group that would go off to roll unopposed bases, but they'd clear out at the first sign of resistance.
-
The majority of the issues will be solved with maps that have a structured base mapping and closer together bases for easier defense from a back field. TT or FI are not the answer. Those can be utilized on other arenas. It should be offence/defense structured with 18 -15 mile apart bases.
The problem with manned guns is that there is really no "risk for the reward". So a person could be having a great 20 min sortie with 5 kills (risk for reward), and then get popped out of the air by some manned gunner who just hopped in it for shiz and gigs, without having to worry about the time (risk/score). In real life that manner gunner still had a life (risk). In AH it doesn't. Your "time" is your life.
Maybe manned guns should be perked or not even allowed?
CVs are my only exception for manned guns. That said, I'd like the auto computer ack to be a little less accurate.
Eny will fix itself once the map has better playability. I also think some planes like the 190D, 109K, G14, Yak3, need to be lowered. We should encourage players to fly higher eny planes, that would make the fights more fun and automatically more fair.

First of all we do need ack because everyone would just rush or vulch bases. As much as I hate ack due to getting shot while not close to the field suck. The large airfields needs to go.

Your not understanding what Im saying. If the dynamics were set to say.....
40 attackers with in 5 miles of the base under attack all building would increase hardness 300%
5 attackers with in 5 miles of the base under attack all building would increase hardness -50%
You could still run a "horde" if you want, so they are not taking away anything, but you would need a lot more ord to actually hit the target. On the other hand if you split your horde to attack 6 bases at once you need much less ord to hit the target. I would think you'd start getting "squads" that would attack a base instead of a horde attacking a base. especially if the hardness changes automatically. You'd have players directing others to hit different bases so as to not harden the targets.

I could note code a thing so take this as an uninformed opinion. Best I can tell, HTC game coding has a large number of cross ties across the whole game including scoring. Make a small change and you send a ripple effect too a large wave through the rest of the software.
We all thought as an example hardening the HQ would be a piece of cake. It was not best I can tell.
-
We all have opinions and mine is that buzzsaw is a excellent map for both quick tank battles and quick air battles, the bases are close enough you do not have to fly a long distance to get action. The high altitude base take more skill to get airplanes such as IL-2 up to kill tanks.
If the horde was spit you would have 5 or 6 fights going on at the same time. While an undermanned team isn't going to be able to stop them all they could stop a number of them and not feel so over whelmed as they do now with a horde of 50 players to take a single V base.

:aok We are getting there, pretty decent discussion so far. I am not talking about MAJOR overhauls or restructuring of maps...yet. That can happen later. What I am talking about specifically are some of the smaller squabbles/problems that are voiced in the BBS. Like whether or not the play IS or IS NOT better with /without ENY. Changes in resup times(again,as it was changed just recently, obviously not enough per some in here) or ack lethality turned up/ done away with. Most of the changes I would like to have worked out are all settings that can be set as you want in custom arenas. Dont think it would be too hard for Hightech to change them month by month. Sort of throw it at the wall and see what happens. I am really just looking to resolve some of the negativity that these issues cause. Not trying to change player mentality, just looking for something more positive :aok
-
Voting or polling can be done on the Arena Message.
Problem is that people do not vote improvements, they vote their style of game.
-
:aok True SIR!. Thats sort of why I brought it up. Here is why, if the majority vote on a particular feature wouldnt that mean the majority would quit griping about that feature? I know you could never get the gripes to zero, but it could stunt the numbers of gripes? I just dislike all these little squabbles. Work them out, one issue at a time and see what the players decide is the majority opinion THEN LET IT be SETTLED and done. Asking for too much maybe, I get it, just trying to help :bhead

Correct.
Thanks for the thought.
Consider the possibility that people gripe because their personalty makes them look for something to gripe about. If you remove that something, something else will always fill the need.

Unfortunately, you are correct again Sir! I stated that earlier, it just gets old reading the same gripes...I know"welcome to my world" right? I couldnt do what you guys do...well with out reinstating DUELLING :salute

the trick to incite change is to abuse it, actions speak louder than words.

The HQ is all but impossible to take down from the air, why it's even in the game is puzzling to me.
Bring back the big maps :aok

Well they have made some nice changes.... that small V-Base with the indestructible Vehicle Hangar....some good fights there for sure. Almost hoard proof

Some people just don't like to be told "No" and keep jamming the conversation with "what if's" and eventual unbridled insults because at the core of their argument is: I want what I want and anyone who disagrees with me is some kind of an "xxxxxxxxist" and obviously stupider than me because I can see clearly they are an "xxxxxxxxist" which disqualifies their arguments. Even if it's an argument with Einstein about relativity. Some are shrewd enough not to go as far as "xxxxxxxxist" so they don't get thrown out of the room.
Social discourse for the 21st century and how to get what you want, influence un-freinding, and make enemies and new BORGettes in cyberspace.

HUH? Not sure where that came from Maybe a different thread? This has been mostly positive, at least I read it that way. I didnt get the My way or highway vibe that you were noting. Maybe I missed something :uhoh
-
scenario:
Hitech says No.
Player or players keep "what ifing" because they do not want No, and think Hitech's reason is kakka and they know better than he because they play the game so have first hand experience and other nonsense like that.
Hitech says NO!!
Players or player now want(s) the last word to show Hitech is an old meenie either overtly or subtly depending on their tolerance for PNG or level of social grace in public settings.
As for positive, when Hitech responds with a mirror to the player say No, and he has to respond again because the last word is more important than accepting his response. Sure it's just a difference of opinion, or was on the first response, the second was to get the message "no" through the fingers in the ears.
Welcome to public discourse in the 21st Century in the cybersphere.

I GOT IT! Skuzzy is sick and has been all week. The HiTech spell check needs to be reset maybe every other day to keep it confused. He has not been there to do it. Hmmmm could it be that Skuzzy has been the spell check culprit all this time?
Interesting!
-
Guess I didnt see where he said NO! Looked to me as was just a "IN a perfect world, maybe? Welcome to my world though. Been theredone that" Guess I take things as they are and dont read between the line, esp when I dont see between the lines. Maybe I should learn to read? Wasnt trying to change the world, just looking for positivism instead of gripes. Whatever, never was good at reading minds, I prefer straight up questions and answers. :bolt: Any further posts from me, WERE NOT trying to get in the last word at all. Not sure how you came to that. All i said was, right, you are correct. Never hurts to try. Maybe you are a bit too accustomed to reading negative things on BBS? Simply trying to be positive. I have no ego to stroke on here, was simply a discussion. Trying to get a different sort of direction for discussion. I see way to many complaints and ZERO suggestions. Whether suggestions mean any thing or not, imo, is irrelevant as I was looking for suggestions not more gripes. I was the only one who this mattered for. I wanted to see something other than complaints and I did. I never expected anything else. Was started by me, for me :rock I got exactly what I was hoping to find. That most of you guys are on the same page as I am. The negativity was bumming me out.
-
Ok, went back and reread from beginning...I see where I missed the clue! :noid May have been simpler to just ask "what do you love about AH?" That maybe wouldnt have come off as The Always room for improvement=griping(or could be) Wasnt my goal, but I see it know :salute

Aces High is a toy not a game. You play with it to entertain yourself. It won't entertain you.

Aces High is a toy not a game. You play with it to entertain yourself. It won't entertain you.
I have to disagree with this. When Oddcaf was leading the squad in AH2 Squad nights were all kinds of things. pingo, caps, base takes, fighter sweeps in LA5s or some lowly hanger queen. He entertained all of us as Im sure we did him with some of our antics.
There are/were a number of well known players , ET, Mugz (old one not the new one) and a few on the knits and bish sides as well that put in the time to make the game entertaining. Whether it is goofy missions, or hard core (ET even does radio chatter to sound like WWI mission flights) PEOPLE make this game entertaining.
Thats were the problems come from now, less players thinking about making it fun for everyone and instead concentrating on their own satisfaction. The old "It's my $15 and Ill do what I want to" line
-
They are all part of the toy. The people are still there, albeit different. The fun is still there, albeit different. I've seen it. Just got to play with your toy differently. :aok

Whole heartedly agree. I have yet to find anything in AH that isnt fun, on some level! Just get tired of all complaints and no ideas on improving. It just got to me here of late. This game and the folk who play it are pretty much my only human interaction, other than family! MS has curtailed my social life greatly. Just being online and talking with others makes it fun for me. I thank God everyday for Dale and the crew! Who would have thought, that a community like AH was able to make such a profound difference to ones life? I sure didnt! To me, that is priceless :rock
